Okay, my friend and I were having a fight about Rurouni Kenshin, and she said that Kenshin was psychotic. I told her I'd get the fangirls at CAA behind me, so...help out please?

Merriam Webster defines "psychotic" as "Marked by fundamental mental derangement (as schizophrenia) characterized by defective or lost contact with reality." Doesn't sound like our Kenshin. I'd say there's probably some term to describe battousai's ability to just kill, but it doesn't seem to fit the definition of "psychotic".

Well, I said that he was sorta schitzo...in how he acts. I didn't say he was totally schitzo...but come on, he could even hear Kaoru when he fought the aku-zoku-zan guy and totally didn't act like himself. Later, he did!
p.s. you gon' get it, girl!

Naw. Kenshin's not crazy, not any more than any other anime character.

ok, let's put it this way, to say that kenshin has multiple personalities basically implies that we as christians have multiple personalities, in kenshin's case one would the wanderer, and the other would be the manslayer, like kenshin we have two sides to who we are: our new man (or woman), and our old man (or woman), we choose who we are with every breath we take and every choice we make, so i'd say no, he's not crazy, he's just torn between his two natures

^ I have to disagree with you there. That analogy is incorrect. Kenshin actually has two separate personalities, two different states of mind. Notice that he actually had to punch himself in the forehead to go back from Battousai to being Kenshin. It is made quite clear that Kenshin has an actual mental disorder.

He's crazy in a good way. He is a bit loopy but he is also pretty stable at the same time. I know I am contradicting myself...but anybody who would like not marry Kaoru sooner is a bit crazy

I'd say Ken-san has a split personality. That's not be confused with schizophrenia.

So, he ain't psycho. So, tell your friend that there's about to be a BIFS headin' in her general direction.

Why yes, yes he WAS crazy.

Thinking you can solve violence with more violence never really seamed to make sense to me... ;)

I'm going with, he is not crazy becuase he is not irrational. He definitely has two-sides to his personality, but it's not as if he forgets who he is or where he is.

Kenshin is one of the most sane anime characters probably, especially considering what he's been through. How could anyone say Kenshin is psychotic? He tries to help others, and vows not to murder. Doesn't sounds like a nutjob to me.

Having a mental disorder does not make someone evil. To assume that Kenshin does not have mental problems because he does good things is a fallacious argument.

The very fact that he has a mental disorder talked about in Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal. The entire point of the movie was to show why he was so messed up.
