Military Leaders you'd love to see an anime character based on.

For those of you who are history buffs, and military history buffs especially, when a new anime series comes out that has military leaders in the forefront, what military commander would you like to see one of the characters based on?

Me? I think it's high time for a military leader in a fictional anime to be based off of my favorite military commander, or one of them: U.S. General Douglas MacArthur. He had the look of a General down pat: the sunglasses, the worn uniform, the hat (gotta love that hat), the pipe, oh man it's so cool. Not to mention that MacArthur has the unique place in history of being the most successful and blundering military commander at the same time. He was totally unprepared for the Japanese when they invaded the Philippines (where my grandpa was captured). However, he led the way back through a great strategy of "hitting them where they ain't", which is maneuvering around the Japanese defenses, going where they aren't prepared, etc. Then there is the maneuver he is most famous for....INCHON. Surrounded by the North Korean troops, MacArthur lands U.S. troops behind enemy lines at the last place the enemy expects...the intraversible beach of Inchon. So successful is it that the U.S. practically overran NK. Then came his final failure....the false prediction that Red China would sit idly by.

I, though, still like MacArthur and though he had many failures (and an ego the size of planet Earth itself), he still had successes and was one of many men used by God to roll back the tyranny of the Axis powers. In fact, it should really be God credited for all the victories, since the Allies could have easily lost WW2.

Oh yes, and who can forget General Patton. :thumb:

Maj. Richard D. Winters and Capt. Ronald Speirs. Great leaders in WWII.

possibly some Civil war generals such as Stonewall Jackson, or Ulysses S. Grant.

I suppose almost any action could be made into an anime; there's certainly enough human drama and actual action.

Peraonlly, I think the tragic heroism of General Sir Isaac Brock (who fell at at the battle of Queenston Heights) would probably make for excellent drama. Aside from his victories in Michigan territory, and his great rapport with the Indians, he is of course best known for leading the charge at the Battle of Queenston Heights.

Which brings me to my next point. Keep this thread politics free and everyone can keep talking; choose not to, and it will get locked, pure and simple.

:: cries as Ashley hands down her verdict::

Despite my passions in life, I'm used to keeping my opinions to myself, as at Robotech.com they're rather..............strict.

Either way, I'll keep politics out of this, and please do so guys. I started this thread and I would hate to have a thread I created get banned. :-( No! NOT ONE OF MY CREATIONS!!!!!

Getting his butt kicked by Orochimaru or someone. Yeah, that would be cool.

There are so many that would be good that its hard to pick one.

There was short anime called The Cockpit that was three war stories of WWII all based on three stories from Leiji Matsumoto's Battlefield manga.

My favorite generals are Hannibal, Romel and Robert E. Lee. They have a somewhat unique and tragic distinction. They were brilliant generals who employed innovative tactics that stunned and shocked their opponents changing the way their wars were fought. They were also ultimately defeated by a failure to recognize when a change in the world around them.

Throughout history, victory has been mostly won by the by the most powerful, best equipped and trained fighting force. In battles where the forces are equal, it was usually carried not by the greatest strategist, but by the one who made the least number of mistakes. A few examples stand out in history as being able to grab victory from the jaws of superior forces - but only for a time. These three generals were on the wrong side of history, each was eventually defeated by an enemy with more money, equipment, and men, but I don't think that takes away from their ability to lead men into battle.

Personally, I think it would be cool to see a series making a chronical of the fall of the Roman republic, in other words, Marius, Sulla (the Happy), Crassus, Pompey, Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, Lipidus, Octavian (renamed Augustus; 'majestic' later), etc. Of course, I think it quite unlikely that there will be such a series, (although there was Reign, which dealt with Alexander the Great). Also, Plutarch and Suetonius give a picture of the personal lives of these men too, which would be a must for such an idea.

Having had relatives on both the Union and Confederate side of the Civil War
I would go with U.S. Grant and Robert E. Lee but also Custer,I think Custer
would make for an interesting anime character. The fact that he WAS
bigger than life in life makes for an even interesting character.
