Under-rated

There are a lot of great animes that pass under the radar.
List here some of these animes that you found to be way underrated.

Both The Big O and Kikaider(Only the first 13 episodes for Kikaider) were really great series', in my opinion. They don't get the recognition they deserve.

Another wildly underrated anime happens to be my favourite of all time. Yes, the inspiration for my user name and that crazy sig.. Giant Robo.
Anyone who has seen it will tell you it's just way past cool, but hardly anyone has seen it! >_<

I personally like the Orphen series. Both the first and second seasons where quite enjoyable. The second one was also rather hilarious. A bit underated in my opinion...

I find Figure 17 very underrated. It's a little slow and very slice of life but a great title. It's coming out in a box set and I highly recommend it.

I think Brain Powered is highly underrated. People pin DNAngel and Megami Kouhousei as Yukiru Sugisaki's best series, but I find that Brain Powered is equally good, and almost better than Megami Kouhousei in parts. =3

lol, when I first read the title of the topic I thought you meant "under-rated" as in, the age rating the companys gave the anime was too low. anyway...

anime I think is under-rated:
Pokemon
Yugioh
Digimon
CLAMP School Detectives

Angelic Layer, Scrapped Princess, and Full Moon wo Sagashite are all far below the radar of most anime fans, which is a shame. They're all fantastic, CLEAN series with very loveable characters.

I think one of my favorite series and the one of which my username here
was inspired by,Dual!Parallel Trouble Adventure might be a bit underrated
because it was created by Hitoshi Okuda who created the even more
popular Tenchi Moyu,Tenchi Universe,No Need For Tenchi, etc.and because
of that Dual! probably gets overlooked because of Tenchi's popularity.

Probably Saber Marionette J.

One of the best anime series of all time, yet I'd be willing to bet that you could count the percentage of people here that have seen it on one hand.

Just don't read the manga... :/

Princess Nine: Most people refuse to give this series a look because they think it's only about girls who play baseball. The story is so much more then that and is really entertaining. The story really draws you in.

Chance Pop Session: It's about 3 girls who want to become famous singers. Sounds dumb but it really has a solid plot. It's another one of those "slice of life" animes that really tell the story quite well. ALso, if you love japanese music, I would highly recommend this title. Even I'm not much into japanese songs, but the music is so nice.

Someday's Dreamers: About a girl who travels to the city to get her Mage training. After some mistakes she starts to doubt the good intentions of her powers. Another story that really draws you in. Also, the ending was really uplifting and touching.

Ayashi no Ceres: also another well made series. As you can see I'm really bad with details so I'll skip the description on this one :P

check number 3

*pokes the list* xD Yataaa, Matantei Loki Ragnarok beat out Fushigi Yuugi, Gundam Wing, Ranma 1/2, and one of the Rurouni Kenshin OVA's. *does a happy dance* I guess I can't say MaLoki's underrated anymore, but Tactics most certainly is. x3 Everyone, spread the love that is Kan-chan!

One of my personal favorites is BlackJack, for screwy people who like medical dramas. It's a bit dated but still gorgeous, and a great dub. Plus Blackjack's a bish and there's nothing wrong with that

ooh..i'll second the mentions of Big O, Kikaider, and Silent Mobius. lol, Big O is what got me into anime originally. And as for Silent Mobius, I REALLY want to see more of that. I got addicted to a few episodes....only to find out the channel was a one week bonus. *glares* basic cable tv = lame

Yeah, and I really want to see the rest of this (I only saw ep 1). Too bad the Japanese version won't get licensed here... *blows 4Kids into little tiny pieces* :mutter:

Pokemon is very under-rated because most people outside Japan have only the seen the horrifically bad dub. The Japanese version is fantastic.
Grave of the Fireflies seems to be respected, but it deserves more attention. It is up with the greatest films ever made IMO since it shows so well how horrible war is. It's a very important movie.
Ai Yori Aoshi also deserves more hype. It's maybe the greatest romance anime out there. Great characters, plenty of romance and comedy, and it really keeps you interested.
Others that come to mind are the Samurai X OVAs and Someday's Dreamers. There are probably others as well.

I think sCRYed is underrated. Sure, the ending was kinda bad (IMO) but still, it did a great job keeping me in suspense throughout the series ^_^

The only anime I can think of off the top of my head that under-rated or overlooked... is Scrapped princess... I've only seen the first few episodes, but so far it is a great anime...

I agree that Big O is a great series.Especially if you love a show that has
a classic jazz musical background.Just watch any episode and it's like the
entire soundtrack is a sax wailing softly in the background.
If you enjoyed movies like Pulp Fiction or the first Batman movie that
came out in the '90s then Big O is the type of show you'd appreciate. :thumb:

=O Here here! I haven't seen the end of the series, but from what I have seen, it's a very good series, and hasn't gotten the attention it deserves.

Saber Marionette J is a great, clean, and fun blending of the harem and magical girl genres. (Note, drop "clean" if you add the follow up series "Saber Marionette J Again")

I found Galaxy Fraulein Yuna to be among the funniest anime out there.

Tsukikage Ran (lots of alcohol content, but very amusing)

El Hazard - kind of like Tenchi, only the plot goes somewhere and the characters are likeable.

My anime collection is full of underrated titles. The one that I think far too many anime fans have missed, however, is Interstella 5555. An anime musical that is just a joy to watch.

Others include:

Aura Battler Dunbine -- a great mecha show from the creator of Gundam.

Dual! -- Funny, clean, and action-packed.

Gasaraki -- A captivating mecha show with an eerie plot and a whole lotta thinking.

Master Keaton -- One of the most addictive shows I've ever watched, and the only anime I've ever convinced my parents to watch (and they fairly enjoyed it).

I like all of those titles that people tend to overlook despite their greatness. I root for the underdog (hence my obsession with Luigi since a young age  ).

And by the way, someone mentioned Someday's Dreamers. Is that clean? I think I would really like it.

As much as I like you, Termyt, I've gotta respectfully disagree with those two titles.

SMJ greatly offended me with their android harem concept (robotic women who only exist to serve men) while El-Hazard had a bit of lesbianism, which I couldn't handle. Ifurita rocked my socks though. hehe (OVA Ifurita I meant)

No hard feelings, yeah? ^_^

I would have also voted for Jubei and the Lovely Eyepatch if it weren't for the tasteless 'bouncing' jokes and shots at her chests. Apart from that, it was pretty entertaining and comical but yeah siiigghh....

However...if you remember, Mave, if you were "in love" with a marionette, you were considered an outcast. This was made apparent in the first episode when Otaru looks at Gen-san's marionette and blushes, and someone says, "Hey, Otaru's a marionette lover!" to which Otaru responds, "I am NOT!" They were mostly used as tools for household chores, and they had no emotions, so it wasn't morally wrong in my opinion for them to be used as slave labor. They weren't alive.

Didn't Saber Marionette have a male character that was attracted to the main male lead? It seemed like a constant thing that I quickly grew tired of.
