I would bye the Box set of Fruits basket but am not sure what to get. I have seen the Fan sub version of Fruits Basket but not the Dubed version can anyone tell me if it is as good as the fan sub.

Well, I never saw the sub, but I can tell you the dub is really excellent. I can't think of a single time there was ever a "glitch", corny line, or any other problems that typically plague older dubs. This one is right on par, if not above, Cowboy Bebop to me.

On most DVDs, there's an option to switch to Japanese with subtitles if you don't like the dub job (this is the case with mine) but I wasn't displeased with the dub at all (well, it felt like I had to adjust the volume a lot, but the voice quality was very good).

I would have to agree. The dub for Fruits Basket is the best English anime dub I've heard.

Ok Thanks I cann't wait to get it. I think I will make sure that it has both before I get it though. That way I get the best of both worlds.

I liked the songs better in Japanese but the dub voices are not to be missed. I'm not great at Japanese but I suspect the English dialogue might be better than the original in some respects.
Gotta love DVDs. I heard this from a manga artist at a convention regarding sub vs. dub: "The war is over - DVDs win!"

Yea, the dub is pretty good, and when watching the subtitles (I have the DVDs) they keep almost exactly the same! This is a great anime and very well done and dubbed. Wish all were so niceley translated..... ^^''

I've seen the dub and found it to be quite excelent. There are those purists out there who consider the dub to be lame, but I say, "If you watch the show, watch it. It doesn't matter if it's in English or Japanese. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters."

I realize this thread hasn't been active for a while, but I'ld like to put in my two cents: I don't really care for the dub. The voices just sound too old to me, plus I was really disappointed that Yuki's voice sounds like he's forcing it to sound low and soft. I'm going to switch to the sub. Tohru Honda's pretty good, though.

I don't think Yuki's voice is optimal, no, but the Japanese VA is a female and that doesn't help his kind of sissified air at all. (Especially since I'm Yuki x Tooru.) I think the dub was an improvement.
And the dubbed Shigure is a riot.

Dubbed, all the way. This was actually a really good dub, and yeah, I hated subbed Yuki's VA. Rock on for the Yuki X Tooru statement, Shoobs.

Did you know that the guy who did Yuki's voice is the same guy who did Trunks from DBZ... lol, I found that hilarious...

I was sort of "uhhh...." when I first heard the dub. But slowly (since my friends MUCH prefer dubs than reading the show), it's actually REALLY good how they put everything together! Sure the dialoge differences have the slightest differences, but still work well!

I guess I just prefer the manga. I can imagine the voices and don't have to put up with the wooden animation. I guess what I mean about the voices sounding too old is that Yuki, for instance, doesn't sound like a kid whose voice would still be changing. He has this artificially deep voice, kind of like Mark Hamil doing his deep "good" game voice as opposed to his deep "evil" game voice.

The sub is pure excellence. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the dub. I know many like it, but I HATE it. I sat through one ep at an anime club and had to leave. I was getting a headache. I know I'm alot less tolerant of dubs compared to most people, but this is easily one of the worst dubs I've seen outside of Pokemon. My problems:
1. The pronounciation is TERRIBLE. That's my biggest problem with it. I'm sick to death of Japanese names and words being mispronounced everywhere I look. Honda Touru is pronounced "Tor-oo Hahn-duh" when it should be "Toh-roo Hohn-dah". Plus the Japanese "r" is different from an English one. It's more of a cross between an l and r. At one point in the ep, a person (I think Touru's voicer) said Hatori's name and if it weren't for her mentioning his injured eye, I would've had no idea who she was talking about.
2. The voices were so far under the Japanese. Touru's Japanese voice completely matches her character and personality. The dub made her feel like an annoying airheaded adult trying to sound young. The dub voices just didn't match the Japanese well enough and in themselves they didn't act nearly as well or do nearly as well bringing the characters to live.
No offense to dub fans, I'm only stating my opinion.
