OK. This was not on the do not descuss list so I thought I'd ask about it.
How is it? It was the front page on Newtype this month and I wanted to get a christian perspective. Newtype tends to rate shows on the level of fanservice. Not cool.
Anyway just wondering what it is and what a christian thinks of it. In other words is it worth checking out?

I think it's a great little show. The OVA series is a cute and sweet romance, and it's mostly innocent. Keichi and Belldandy's relationship is really cute. They are one of the few anime couples were the girl is taller than the guy ^_^. The main attraction of the series is the extremely cool movie. It has some of the best animation EVER, an awesome soundtrack, and an excellent story that I think did a good job of bringing a conclusions to the characters and their relationship. Content wise, there is some fanservice, mostly from Urd and her sometimes skimpy outfits, but it's nowhere near the level of shows like Tenchi or Ai Yori Aoshi. Episode 2 has the most fanservice, mostly because it's a beach episode so the characters spend time in bathing suits. There is also some brief undetailed nudity in one episode of the OVA and in the movie, but overall I would say the series is in a PG range. I know the idea of "Goddesses" may make some people weary, but I think the way the series sets them up makes them seem more like Angels than Goddesses. They all have specific duties that they are assigned, they all answer to one divine being, who is refered to as a father figure, and their isn't any worshipping of these "Goddesses". I'd recommend it.

I LOVE OMG.
I agree with what Rocketshipper said, there's very little nudity or fanservice, almost no violence to speak of, and not really any language either. The goddesses thing, yeah, they're more like angels really.
The animation is superb, the soundtrack is awesome, and Skuld is SO cute!
The movie is also one of the best anime movies I've ever seen. But it DID remind me of the Vespar storyarc in the manga a little...not that that's a bad thing.
I recommend it, personally. It was one of the first anime I ever watched.

They might be talking about the new TV show.
The old OAVs, the movie and the Mini-Goddess series all have reviews in the review database, so I won't repeat them (in fact, yours truly wrote the OAVs and Mini-Goddess reviews; Gypsy wrote the one for the movie).

I own it (manga and anime) and I love it! There is some fanservice, but I ignore it or use the pen in the manga... The series itself is good though ^^

I only have one manga.I hope that CN would decide to air it one of these days on
AS or else that AU would air it as the manga is great fun and I'd love the chance to see the anime as well.

The OVA is awsome and very good animation however the manga goes into so much depth than the ova. The movie is good however really has no basis on either the OVA or Manga only has the same characters. There is another animation called mini goddess which 52 5 min shows which are all hilarious and surround the minor characters and Gary the rat. (Urd, Skuld, and the demons)
There is talk of a continuing anime series from the ova based off the manga however it has yet to be announced! It probally good if they really decide to base it off the manga.
About the fanservice there is some but it really small and insignifcant. Oh by the way its all based off mythology the names of the goddess and the name of there homeland all come from norse mythology and mixed with some others.

Have you considered strips of post-it notes to cover those parts? That's what I did with the excessive nudity in Ranma 1/2 when I was younger.
At least in OMG/AMG, the fanservice is pretty rare and mild in the manga.
And to answer the original poster's question, the series is basically another "Magical Girlfriend" series where the author chose to use goddesses instead of aliens or other girls with strange powers to be different. Most of the theological statements are mere generic platitudes with some occasional bad ideas (in
The Devil in Miss Urd manga, they once postulated that good and evil were two sides of the same coin and could not ever be seperated). I liked the manga series up through
Terrible Master Urd, but it seemed to get kind of sappy for my tastes after that.
Based on Norse mythology, the chief god sometimes seems based on God. I don't think anything deliberately disrespectful. The series has been going on for years and characters have taken some changes (In the early volumes of the manga, Belldandy was actually kind of a ditz, using magic powers and sometimes making things worse).
Final Verdict: Mostly Harmless
