Any Azumanga Daioh fans here?

I was wondering if anyone out here is a fan of the weird (yet brilliantly funny) anime called Azumanga Daioh? It just happens to be my favorite anime of all time and I have yet to buy the final DVD (though I have collected all four of the manga volumes.)

Yes, I enjoy this one very much. It was also a hit with my daughter and she's pretty selective with her anime watching (right now it's limited to Azumanga, Kaleido Star and Seven of Seven). We just got volume 6 a couple weeks ago and have completed the manga which wasn't hard at only 4 volumes.

A huge fan is what I am. I have all 6 volumes (still watching Vol. 6), and I have the first manga. Tomo is my favorite character -- she cracks me up!

I like it a lot too, I just haven't been able to read/see more than volume 1 of the manga. Osaka is my favorite for sure! But Chiyo-Chan is really cute too. ^^

Azumanga is really quite rad. I think Chiyo-chan is adorable, and Osaka is one of my favorites because she's just so funny. I've seen about half of the TV series and I've read all of the manga. I think it's great.

This is one of my favorites, no doubt.
My favorite is Tomo. I know, she's ditsy and has a mean streak a mile long, but I can't help but love her enthusiasm.
The last volume is great - worth looking forward to. THat's all I'll say for now.

I have to agree, Termyt, Tomo is great. Tomo's role in the whole "hiccups" ordeal had me in stitches. XD That was so great.

Wow, a lot of Azumanga Daioh fans here!
Though I'm just wondering if I'm the only Yomi fan over here? Granted she isn't the most
popular character of the series, but I think the fact that she's constantly worried about her weight (as well as being the constant target of Tomo's antics) is hilarious!
Anyways, while we're on the subject\thread about Azumanga Daioh,
what are your favorite moments or episodes from the series? A few have been mentioned already, but for me I'd have to say the whole New Year's Dream special - Bizarre, yet funny at the same time. Plus that's where we get introduced to Chiyo-chan's father!

favorite moments?
WHENEVER SAKAKI SEES SOMETHING CUTE! AND STARTS TO BLUSH!
as well as the hole hiccups chaos
aaannnddd when they were swimming, and Mr. Kimura was in with them, and Chiyo-chan nearly drowned
what was REALLY cute was when she was in the penguin costume. Omg I died like crazy seeing that, so cute!
Tsukarimashou, tsukarimashou... Sate sate nani ga dekiru
ka? Hai! Dekimashita!!!

Yes, I'm an AD fan.... to me, it represents a lot of what is "right" with anime... not really deep, but one of the few animes that can get me laughing out loud. I don't know that I have a favorite character, although Chiyo, Osaka, and Kamineko are up there.
In case there are those who haven't seen it....
I think my favorite moment is in DVD 5 where Osaka is going to participate in the bread-eating contest. You know she's up for it, but then when the announcer starts going into detail over the different types of bread, you know that Osaka doesn't stand a chance.
Of course, I have a lot of favorite moments... but that one you had to pry me off the floor.

ClosetOtaku's spoiler was also another one of my highlights, as well as Osaka's constant mispronunciation of the native Okinawan language ("champru!"
.)

the dub is so messed up. Osaka + soutern accent = BAD!
I watch it subbed ^^

I guess I'm just lazy or very tolerant. I'll watch anime dubbed or subbed without complaint. It comes down to if I feel like reading subtitles or not.

I personally like both the sub and dubbed.

Really, then would you prefer Osaka (being from Osaka) to have a New York accent instead?
I actually thought the Southern accent brought some life to a ditz like Osaka. Besides, it's hard to find an English substitute for Osakan characters.
And I do enjoy the dub as well. The ADV team really did a good job of trying to be "comical" about the voices and I would say this is one of the best dubs I've heard in a while.
Though I also think the original voices due have a more better "cuteness" factor than the dub.

Well, I think I agree with MSP. The idea that all Kansai dialect speakers must be dubbed into English as if they were from San Antonio is a little tiresome.
A shining exception to this rule is Ukyoo from Ranma 1/2, who is Kansai (if you listen to the sub), but Kelly Sheridan read her lines straight, and it *still* communicates that she's an out-of-towner with odd ways without twanging my ears into paste.
However, Osaka's drawl is about my only complaint on an otherwise exceptional dub.

Well, Osaka isn't as "exaggerated" as the dub of Caldina (Magic Knight Rayearth) or Mitsune (Love Hina) were as far as southern accents. To me it went off sounding cute in a way that you could barely hint that she is from the south. It's as if Miss Davis was actually trying to match the character based only who she is (a "slow", but very softspoken girl.) She just happens to have the Kansai in her and that's probably where the decision of the norm of "dubbing it Southern" comes in for Osaka.
Of course, those are just my own ears speaking.

I thought I read that such a thing is usually done partially to reflect that the accent comes from a "southern" part of Japan.
Maybe I've miss-read/heard that.

yeah, south in USA is kinda equivilant to Osaka in Japan
still, it sounds really weird

Oh, I know *why* they do it, I just think it's a dumb idea
and can be communicated in other ways. But it's personal preference, of course.
