How did you get into anime?

How did you guys come to like anime?

For myself I came to like anime after watching Pokemon on the TV, but back then i didnt even know what anime was. I searched online and found pokemon sites and found out that that was anime. While searching for anime i found a few hentai sites too, so I got into hentai fairly quickly after i got into anime. The gameboy games were what really got me into anime though. I lost intrest in the TV series after a while, but kept on playing the games.

The next anime I really got into was Monstar Rancher i think. I enjoyed the TV series and kept on watching it. The next anime i liked was Gundam Wing and that was the one that really got me out of the pokemon phase. That and the hentai. I moved on to different animes always on the TV, but i always found myself searching for hentai online too. It's hard to say how much of a part hentai had in getting me deeper into anime. I always wonder would i have gotten into anime to the extent that i am into it now if i hadn't found hentai? Well, that's the long and short of my story of how i got into anime and hentai. :)

actually i never knew what anime was until i was 11. anime wasnt as popular as it is now, so i first watched anime on....believe it or not...telemundo. they used to show dragonballz episodes in spanish so i'd watch it every morning. no i dont understand a bit of spanish either :p the first anime i ever saw though was totoro and i didnt even know it was japanese. after the whole dbz in spanish thing, i started watching pokemon, digimon, etc. the sole factor that got me into anime though i think was seeing mononoke hime. after i saw that i knew i wanted to see more. whenever i saw anime pictures too i wanted to know more about it cuz i love to draw and i like the style of the art, so yea thats my story :)

I confess. I started on Pokemon. And not just any Pokemon, but the Saturday morning cut and 4Kids dubbed Pokemon!!! *weeps*

Fortunately, Gundam Wing pulled me out of there and showed me the real coolness of anime and I've since become something of a subtitle purist. :eyeroll:

I was born and raised in Southern California. They played shows like Astro Boy, Gigantor, Amazing Three and Kimba The White Lion back in the 60s. However, at that time I didn't know it was anime. I came back to it about 6 years ago watching Ranma 1/2 and pretty much made it a hobby.

I was like six years old when I first saw MegaMan. now I watch almost every anime show that airs on Cartoon Network (except for Pokemon, any Dragon Ball, Yugioh, and Duel Masters). btw, does anyone have The Anime Network?

Well, Pokemon was my first anime. Lol. I didn't know it was anime though; my best friend was the one who told me about anime and showed me Fushigi Yugi. So I really consider Fushigi Yugi my first anime. :)

Technically my first anime was Sonic the Hedgehog, but I must shamefully admit that the one that really got me obsessed with Pokemon and Digimon (though I'm not quite ashamed to say I'm still a Digimon fan. ^_^). Then came Gundam Wing and DNAngel...the rest was history.

I stumbled onto anime itself a couple years ago. I used to watch rare television/cartoons that none of my friends were watching at the time. I would watch Voltron, Super Human Samurai series, and stuff like that. When I was around 11, I happen to watch Dragonball on a local channel. I came on every sunday 8:00-8:30AM. Then I would watch Sailor Moon when it first got its licenced to the US. It aired around 6:00AM saturday. Then later on I would watch Samurai Pizza Cats, and other rare US television show and then I got into anime. Where I started watching classic series.

I first saw anime when my brother was into DBZ--because we're close, I'd watch it with him. But in junior high when Toonami was really getting strong, that's when I started enjoying anime on my own. Gundam Wing, Ronin Warriors, Outlaw Star, Big O...lots of great shows got my interest and kept it.

My brother (who isn't an anime fan) bought a gundam action figure. I saw the advertisment for gundam wing on the back and when cartoon network became common programing on cable I recorded a couple gundam episodes from my grandma's. Ever since I've been hooked on anime.

As stated in onother thread, I blame the fact that I am an anime nut on my brother and a toy. :)

My brother (Godly Paladin) is an anime nut. I was forced to watch DBZ. Not good. Then Gundam Seed. Not good either, but I could see the potential. He has been writing a book that is *sort of* based on Gundam Wing, so I wanted to see what started it. Got hooked. Now life is good.

My first was also Pokemon. I started watching the series and was hooked, then after they finished season 1 WB started running tons of re-runs and I stopped watching. One day I just turned my TV on randomly and saw they had a new episode of Pokemon on and I started watching again. If I hadn't turned on the TV that day I might have never gotten further into anime! Anyway, I started watching Pokemon again and then got hooked on Cardcaptor Sakura when WB started airing it, and when I found out that CCS was heavily edited for TV and pioneer was going to release uncut DVDs I pre-ordered the first one immidiatly. At the same time I also ended up catching an eisode of Tenchi on CN and after only a few minutes I was like "I HAVE to watch this show!" so I started taping the episodes. After I bought the 3rd Tenchi movie on DVD I realized that I was missing out on the uncut japanese version of Tenchi and the CN episodes were edited (I hate editing!) so I started buying all the Tenchi DVDs, and my anime obsession took off from there. Now I own what seems like a zillion series. Pokemon and CCS are still my all time favorite series though!! Except for Pokemon and Yugioh I don't watch anime on TV anymore, because I prefer to watch stuff uncut, not edited for TV.

My first introduction to anime was a healthy collection of Superbook and Flying House videos that my old church had, so I knew from an early age that anime was cool. Still, I didn't really watch much anime for a long while after that, mostly because of some very unfortunate TV problems (we had about the only cable provider in Georgia that DIDN'T have Cartoon Network and all the syndicated like DBZ came on at, like, 5 in the morning), but the occasional Sci-Fi Channel showing of stuff like Robot Carnival and Lenseman kept the flame alive, so to speak. Of course, then Pokemon and Digimon (the later of which you SHOULDN'T be ashamed to still like) happened, followed by the release of movies like Princess Mononoke and Metropolis and then my getting regular access to Toonami and Adult Swim and... Well, then I was an undisputed geek. :brow:

(Though I guess I should add that, aside from the above and stuff that's closely related to it, I really don't watch much anime. Between the ever-present problem of questionable content and just plain dull rup-off titles, there's just a limited amount of anime that's worth it)

Hmm..Well I guess the first anime that I loved was a kids movie called Scamper The Penguin. It used to be my favorite movie. One of my friends was a big DBZ fan and i watched some stuff with him. I thought that it was ok...I'd have to say what probably got me hooked was when I saw some Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star at a friends house. I knew about anime for a while before that and liked it but wasn't into it that much until Outlaw Star.

It started out with Pokemon for me, I never really got interested in it much tho. Then the Yu-Gi-Oh! (I still like that show. ^_^") theme song, then with YGO I started watching the anime. I eventually lost and gained interest in it off and on. (I still do that). Then when I really became an otaku with Yu Yu Hakusho. I saw a tad bit of the end of "The Ledgendary Bandit: Yoko Kurama". I thought it was interesting, but not till I found out the name of the show and saw it from the beginning. Oh yea, some male friends of mine (in 5th grade) got me hooked on DBZ, but I've lost interst in that show. My mom used to like an anime called "Kimba The White Lion". I don't know if she knew it was an anime then tho...

How did I get into anime....

In 8th grade I had a friend down the street who was really into anime. He invited me a few times to watch some vhs with him and since I had nothing better to do I did. The first one I've ever seen was a couple episodes of Robotech... though I think that may be the american version. :P

Well for me, i led a very sheltered life... the only anime on tv that i knew of (an i didnt know wut anime wus) was sailor moon, but i wus never allowed to watch it due to new age stuff. I was homeschooled from grade 3 to 8 and when i started high school a friend had me come over to her house. she is so obsessed (but not as obsessed as me ^_^). she showed me a music video that contained ranma 1/2, fushigi yuugi, and card captors. she began explaining everything an it drove me to know more. (she got so **** cuz i kept beggin to watch it over and over and over.....). Now im so hyped up on the stuff, i live and breathe it, though it's not easy in my city..... bullies sux. *_*

The first time I was formally introduced to anime was after I had played the Magic Knight Rayearth rom for the SNES. A fun little RPG that led me on a journey to find the show to watch. During that journey, I also managed to find anime on a local public access station that broadcasted shows subtitled.

For the past three years, I've considered anime a hobby that is too hard to let go! :)

My first encounter with anime happened when I find out about christian anime called Super Book or similar (I do not recall exact name, but it is famous anime about book that showed different stories from bible). Next came Volron (hurray! :)) and Transformers.
The real stuff started happening when I first watched Love Hina. It was just so different from animations I've watched so it got me hooked up quickly only to find out that there many other good titles to watch ;)
And so it began...

BTW, it is not much of drawing that got me interested in anime and manga, but well developed stories that they use for them.

i always loved samurai stuff, and had a think for swords, and was introduved by friends to games like final fantasy VII (i know its not anime 'proper') and have always thought japanese stuff was cool, then once we got cable i saw some eps of tenchi and gundam wing on CNX (now toonami), and my interest was piqued, then when i was at a friends he showed me the first couple of eps of the first naruto DVD and i was hooked! Two weeks later i had downloaded the entire series of naruto up to where it was then and watched it all in that fortnight!!! then i started watching other stuff like Eva, Chrno Crusade, Kenshin, Full Metal Panic etc. and went from there...

I got into anime by watching DragonBall Z when it was on Fox Kids all those years ago. When it moved to Cartoon Network's Toonami, I started watching it on there along with other shows, with a lot of kiddy anime on other channels as well. As anime got more and more popular, there was more to choose from. I've also gotten older and my tastes have moved away from DBZ and onto other anime.

i knew of anime, but never really paid attention to it.

and then i saw gundam wing. those huge humongous things, moving with far more grace or agility than i could ever dream of just blew my mind away.

and to be honest, i just loved the style. i believe it's the best for animation.
