Megas XLR??

I was wondering, does anyone here watch Megas XLR? I LOVE that show, it's so hilarious and I really like the characters. For anyone who doesn't know, Megas is a (relativly) new cartoon that airs on Cartoon Network every Saturday and Sunday. The main character is 22 year old Coop, a fat, lazy, video game addict who finds a giant robot in a junk yard near home and fixes it up. Before he and his best friend Jamie can get around to causing any destruction, the robot's original owner, a femal warrior from the future, named Kiva, arrives and demands they return the robot. Unfortinetly, Kiva is followed into the past by the Glorft, the race that created the robot, and Coop ends up being drafted into a battle to save the earth from them and many other Alien invaders. Technicly, the show isn't anime, it's an American cartoon, but I ask about it because it ends up being one big parody of anime and japanese media. The general idea of the show is a parody of giant robot anime, and there have been lots of other hilarious japanese refrences, like Megas's manual controls being a Dance Dance Revolution machine that speaks Engrish. So far there have been episodes and scenes that have parodied Ultraman, Power Rangers, Sailor Moon, Macross, Godzilla, Transformers, and Captain Harlock, as well as some American pop culture icons, like Evil Dead, Bubba Hotep, Westling, Pay-Per-View, Mr. T, and MTV.

Yeah I watch this show! It's one of the funniest cartoons I've ever seen. Most of CN's original cartoons are kinda lame, but this one is one of the best I've seen. And yes, I love the theme song too.

Forgot to mention in my previous post, but the voice acting in the show is really good too. Wendee Lee plays Kiva, and Steve Blum, the guy who played Spike in Cowboy Bebop, plays Jamie. Bruce Campbell plays one of the villians, and the guy who plays Coop is the son of Dom Deluise ^_^.

Wow. As far as VAs go, CN's going all-out there. Cool.

I love the openning theme - "You got to find first gear in your giant robot car."
For some reason, that strikes me as hillarious.

I love it too. Whenever I can watch it, it cracks me up! I love the one where all coop wants is a slushy and he can't ever get it. It is also always funny to watch the ending credits; they make up something new every time.

In my opinion, it is one of the best CN original shows and definitely one of the most hilarious. I remember seeing an interview of the creators of the show, and it turns out they are big anime fans and gamers, which is not surprising considering the material of their show.
I really like it when Coop yells and presses a big red button on the dashboard by slamming his face into it. Just the thought of that image makes me chuckle.

It is beyond a doubt the best robot cartoon(besides Gundam Seed, which is also my fav) on CN. I especially like that one episode where Coop has to rescue the
S-Force.
On the episodes opening.
Coop: "BUURRRP!" *sniff sniff* "Huh?" *sniff* "I don't remember eatin' that!"

I saw the one with the S-Force and was completely amazed at the reference. They even had the theme music in the background. ^^
But I nearly died when I saw the one with "Captain Warlock". I was expecting another reference (and half afraid I wouldn't get it). I was racking my brain at the beginning of the episode (I didn't recognize the ship), but I jumped up and screamed, "IT'S CAPTAIN HERLOCK!!" the first time they panned across his eyes. ^^;;; It took me all night to get over even a resemblance to Captain Herlock on Cartoon Network.

Wow, I haven't been here in a while...
Anyway, Megas XLR isn't actually an anime, so shouldn't it be in a different forum?
In any case, I love this show. From the voice-acting to the cheesy story and action to the crazy-awesome allusions. Unfortunately I keep missing episodes because of work.
This show should come out on DVD. Soon.

I liked the one where they found Area 50 and that crazy robot w/ some kind of old film reel player or somthing for a hard drive. and as soon as the crazy robot drains the power from the video game convention and the power goes out, everyone immediatly pulls out thier handheld game system!

As I said in my first post, Megas may be an american cartoon but one of the main aspects of the show is it's various parodies of anime, so I think it's appropriate for it to remain in the anime forum.
Did anyone see yesterday's episode of Megas, "Terminate Her"? I didn't catch any anime refrences in it, but it did parody some American stuff. It was mainly a parody of Terminator and Predator. I really liked the ending blip where Gorath made his underline use the optical camoflage to turn himself into Coop, so Gorath could beat him up ^_^. Last week's episode was the thanksgiving special, and Megas had to fight giant balloon parodies of the Super Mario Brothers and Sonic the Hedgehog. They also had a hilarious refrence to the first Batman movie.
Has anyone else noticed that the animation seems to have gone down hill since season 2 started?? The battles used to be really nice and smooth, but now they seem to use a lot more still images and those annoying lighting flashes to signify something getting hit.

Yes, I know its been about a month since someone posted in this post. But... I can't resist! I mean the avtar says it all! I love Megas XLR! Ever sice I saw the first episode in 2003 (for those of you who don't know, Megas XLR was aired on Cartoon Network during 2003 on Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, I think it was called Lowbrow back then) I have been hooked. This looks like a show that will probably be on Cartoon Network for many years to come(Or so I hope). Oh, and Ryan, next time your over, I'll try and show you an episode of Megas.

I believe this show is the best original cartoon currently featuring on Cartoon Network, and probably my current favorite in terms of recent satire. The quality of writing and (geneally) of animation is quite high, and I have often enjoyed it to a high degree. Humorously enough, often the battles within it are better and at times more dramatic than some serious series.
One of my favorite episodes would undoubtably be the one involving the "Universal Controller". For reasons unknown to me, the theme music of the antagonist robot became steadily more silly every time.

I saw this when the 9-11 minute or w/e pilot episode when it first aired as "Lowbrow" as well. I loved it then. Love it more now.

Tomorow's new episode is going to be part 1 of a two parter. I think it may be the season finale.

Hey now that makes sense considering Coop's size and hunger that he'd be played by one of the Deluise boys!
Which one is it?
Yeah,Wendee Lee and Kari Wahlgren seem to be the two female VAs that
seem to be in almost EVERY Anime and Cartoon these days.Kari Wahlgren
plays Nova the yellow monkey on Toon Disney's Robot Monkey Hyper Force
Go!
What I love about Megas is the way they parody the entire Mecha genre of
anime.
Especially note how every once in awhile when Coop's wrecking the city they
have signs that say something like:"Just Another Conviently Empty Factory!"
There's also this reaccuring black kid who's always seems to be around when
something interesting is happening and he just always happens to be slurping some type of frosty convience store drink!

This reminds me of kind of stuff they would try to pull early on in FUNi's DBZ edit. I remember a specific incident... *flashback*
Napa: *flying over city* Cowardly humans, blah blah blah... *meanwhile, you can clearly see cars going thru the city and people walking around*
*commercial break*
Napa: *in now blowing up the city* Heh, cowardly humans. A little target practice on some empty buildings and they scatter...
Now, two things are wrong with this. One: you can still see the cars. Two: Since when are cities just completely empty at any point in time?

Two elements I enjoy are the series' immense property destruction and complete disregard for realism in terms of damage. Entire cities are frequently destroyed, and it doesn't seem that it ever really matters. This is, of course, exactly like what the assorted series that they intend to satirize, but they take it to further levels.

This week and next Saturday they're doing a two parter where they screw around with the entire concept of Alternate Realities and Evil Twins!
The episode is called something like Rearview Mirror Mirror.
Hmmm...So could they have possibly have had the Trek ep.Mirror,Mirror
in mind when they wrote it?
Note:Evil Coop is a lot slimer than Regular Coop.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw last nights episode was Sliders. Did anyone ever watch that show?? The previews for part two made me think that they are going to parody Stargate next. Also, when I saw Evil Coop the first thing I thought of was Char from Gundam, for some reason. The drill machine the glorft used at the beginning of the episode looked like the machines from the Matrix

I was trying to think of what "Rearview Mirror, Mirror" reminded me of, and I'll I could come up with is Dual! Parallel Adventure.

I watch Megas occasionally. I find it pretty amusing. Although I think Coop would get his butt handed to him if he fought Big O.
