Tenchi

Are any of the Tenchi series any good? I remember that these were on Toonami a few years ago...always wondered if they were any good.

Something tells me they're fanservicy and silly. Am I right?

The uncut versions have quite a bit of fanservice, but I really enjoyed the series while it was on Toonami. Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi Universe, and Tenchi in Tokyo are all rated 13+ by Geneon. Tenchi Forever (I think!) is rated 16+ - it might not be that particular movie, but one of the movies does have a higher rating than the others.

I love the Tenchi series!! It's one of my all time favorites! It's true that the uncut version does have some fanservice, but most of it is really fun an enjoyable. I really like the love-triangle stuff between Tenchi, Ayeka, and Ryoko. There is a lot more Tenchi than what's just been mentioned in the other posts. As of now, the Tenchi-verse includes...

Tenchi Muyo OVAs: (13 episode)
Pretty Sammy OVA/Mishoshi Special
3 movies (Tenchi in love, Daughter of Darkness, and Tenchi Forever)
Tenchi Universe (TV series 1)
Tenchi in Tokyo (TV series 2)
Magical Project S (a pretty sammy spin-off series)
Dual, Parellel Trouble Adventure (Yes, Dual is, in fact, part of the Tenchi-verse. it crosses over with GXP)
Tenchi Muyo GXP (TV series 3)
and finally...the brand new Techi Muyo OVA 3, which I believe has 4 episodes out now.

the OVAs and Tenchi Forever are rated 16 up. The rest of the stuff is 13 up. I'd actully really recommend Tenchi Forever, I think it's one of the best anime movies ever!!! It got it's 16 up rating because of two very short sexual scenes, but their isn't anything else fanservicey in the movie and there is almost no violence. It's a really sad and poignant movie that focuses more on Tenchi's relationship with the girls than on sci-fi action and comedy.

I like Tenchi Universe out of all of them. Mostly because it really had ending.

We don't know the true ending for the OVA, since the 3rd OVA has came out not to long ago in Japan.

I liked the first six OVA's. Those together make a nice neat series worth watching. Adding all of the others got a little too repetitive for me. PICK SOMEONE OR CRYING OUT LOUD!

My saying about Tenchi:

Some people achieve greatness.
Some people have greatness thrust upon them.
And some people take that greatness and cram it right back into whatever cosmic hole it was thrust out of.

I also enjoyed the first six OAVs. I'm glad that the new material coming out right now in Japan is a continuation of that. Of the movies I would have to say my favorite is the first, Tenchi In Love. And I'll add that the Pretty Sammy TV series has some very funny material in it.

It shouldn't matter because none of them are inter-related (with the exception of the first OVA, GXP, and the new OVA I believe).

Not that this adds anything to the conversation, but I would like to say that Kagato (OAV version) is perhaps one of my favorite all-time villains. Thank you and goodnight.

Here is a list of all the shows that are part of Tenchi and which ones go together.

Tenchi Muyo! OAV (The frist six OVA's.)

Tenchi Muyo! OAV 2 (The follow up from the first six OVA's.)

Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OAV 3 (the last and ending of the this story)

Tenchi Universe (TV) This is the one that I like. Since it had Kiyone in it and was a bit more tame with the nudity and sex jokes then what the OVA was.

Tenchi in Tokyo (TV) (another alternate retelling of the story.)

Now for the Movies.

Tenchi Muyo Movie 1: Tenchi in Love ( is a sequel of Tenchi Universe (TV))

Tenchi Muyo Movie 3: Tenchi Forever ( is a sequel to the first movie)

Tenchi Muyo Movie 2: Daughter of Darkness ( is a sequel of Tenchi Muyo! OVA's) Funny fact in this one. Kiyone is in this movie and how did she get there, when she was never in the OVA one and two. I'm not really sure if this right that on the info that it was a swquel to the OVA's one and two. I have heard that this movie was a sequel to Tenchi in Tokyo.

You left off GXP ^_^. although the main story doesn't follow the normal Tenchi characters, they do show up ocasionally for some cool cameos. It's supposed to take place after Tenchi Muyo OVA 3. The Mihoshi Special is also considered part of the OVA storyline.

Yeah, I'd have to say that Tenchi Universe is my favorite too. Not only is the fan service level at it's lowest, but it's got the kighest quality artwork and the story (I think) is the one that makes the most sense.

A complaint that can be thrown at nearly every Tenchi outing (note, I said NEARLY)

Tenchi Forever, the 3rd movie, is supposed to be the ending to the Universe timeline. Back when that move came out it was also intended to be the last Tenchi anything, but then they made GXP.

Has anyone here read the Tenchi manga?? I have all of the first series and 4 volumes of the new one. I think it's really good, it's has a lot more action than any of the anime series.
