O MAN! I just finished watching Grave of the Fireflies for the first time ever. It's such a powerful film. Really puts perspective on how weathly we really are. And it's SO sad. Be sure to have something funny to watch after seeing this or you'll become depressed. *goes off to put Zim Vol.3 on* it was strange, but I never cried until the credits, then I bawled.

I used to own this at one point, and then sold it quickly because the show was just TOO pessimistic for my liking! Sure, we can watch all those war films like Pearl Harbour, but when you see something like this... well, you get to see what it is like from the other point of view....

A devastating film, based on true-life events of the author. Shows the side of war we rarely see. A must-see masterpiece.

Very depressing and sad... nothing much that's sunshines and happiness about it...

Yet, it is a powerful piece on the "human experience." I also place it in the "must see" category. It will make you think about your own life and about the way you treat others.
Studio Ghibli once packaged this movie with My Neighbor Totoro, I'm told. It's a good paring. Watch Grave for it's impact and message and then immediately watch Totoro to restore your hope and faith in humanity.

Yeah, I remember seeing that movie a while ago. That was such a sad movie, but it was really good though.

Tenshi....I don't think the movie's supposed to be sunshine and happiness...
GotF is on my do not watch list because I'll be crying the whole time.
And I don't mean tears, I mean the full out bawling that leads to a headache. And Asterlon does not like crying at movies. How do I know I'll end up ill? I looked at the movie's site and started crying just watching the trailers. :'(

Very emotional I see (nothing wrong with that though). I felt very sad for the characters in the film as I watched but amazingly I didn't cry (which is interesting because I can be a real crybaby). I have the movie subtitled on VHS but I want the collector's edition DVD. I've watched it more than once and I catch more little nuances each time. I can't wait to get the DVD and watch the extras.
