Uncut Yu Gi Oh

The first 2 dvd's of the uncut Yugi come out tomorrow. Has anyone heard anything about them?
I liked Yugi at first, but the whiny preachiness about "let's all be friends and we'll succeed" got very old, very fast. So I am wondering if the subtitled, uncut is gonna be as sappy. Thots anyone?

I never did care for the anime...but I really like the manga. Apparently, the first season of the show WAS like the manga, with no duel cards (well, okay, they were in ONE episode near the end), just Yugi playing sadistic games with criminals.
Are they gonna release THAT in America? 'Cuz that'd be freakin' awesome! There's one episode where Yugi turns this dude's insides into clock gears! It was freaky!
I just don't like the duel cards. It's boring to me.

I watched the 4Kids edit for a while (before I had seen too much anime), but it just became so ridiculous that I could only watch it for laughs.
I don't believe I would buy the uncut DVD.
Now, an uncut One Piece is a totally different story...

Hey guys,
I got this from amazons reviews of the Dvd's in my own search to find out what would be in YGO uncut. Maybe this will help with your desicion:
Warning, this DVD is not for everybody, it involves the following:
Blood, Death, Hideous decapitation of monsters as well as other gruesome imagery, Nudity ( some yugioh cards originally came with nude female monsters, but clothes were drawn on them for the english audiences and standards of practices.) and even fowl language.
Despite that, this DVD will be very unlike the episodes you've seen on TV, every die hard fan of yugioh will enjoy this DVD, but remember it's only recommended for ages 14 and up, maybe even 18 and up ... it depends if your children are mature enough to understand what they're seeing.
I probably won't be picking it up because I have a problem with the "skin" issue, if only that wasn't in it I'd pick it up in a heart beat. :/ Hope that clears some things up.
God Bless,
Souba

u_u; Well at least they're putting a warning on it. I hear Shounen Jump got edited because all the little kiddies wanted Yuugioh comic books, and the soccer moms/parents that let the TV babysit their kids didn't like what they saw. (yes, in most anime they DO curse, surprise surprise America) Whatever. I'm actually a fan of the uncut Yuugioh (the entire 4kids editing thing had me REALLY upset from the beginning) so I'm glad they're finally coming out with the original so the fans won't feel bad about downloading uncut episodes off the internet.
...that entire post felt really out of character. o_0;

hmm, might be something worth checking out. I'm sure it's not as horribly awful as they say it is. it's probably no worse than any other show.

That whole thign looks like an overstatment! For once, I can say a bit on the "skin" issue. It's really not AS bad as it sounds! They had scans in Shonen Jump of what the "nudity" looked like. Seriously, the edit of this "nudity" didn't even cover up the nakedness. No real nakedness anyhow! If you want me, I can even scan the page to show of how light of a deal it is.
18+ PHHT! Sounds a little bit overboard. Like if you rated Sailor Moon that since it had "nudity" and "grusome deaths".

That wasn't the first season. That was a different series that was based on the first 6 volumes of the manga and that was produced by a different company. 4kids doesn't even have the license for that one.

The Amazon reviewer is being overdramatic. Other shonen anime like One Piece have way more blood than uncut Yugioh does. The battles are almost entirely between holographic monsters. "Gruesome imagery" is a rather vague statement...
Although there is Dark Bakura and Dark Marik...
As for the "nudity," I seriously doubt that there is much, if any. Mai's Harpy Ladies wear more suggestive outfits in the original but I don't consider that nudity. At worst, it would probably be a "skin-tight rubber suit" thing.
I would take Amazon reviews with a grain of salt.

The US Shonen Jump magazine hasn't had any graphical edits. Although, they have toned down the profanity levels from some of the earlier issues and changed Mr. Satan to Hercule ala the DBZ dub for whatever reason. Viz has made some weird decisions lately.
As for my opinion on the whole uncut Yugioh, well, I'm actually more interested in uncut Shaman King at the moment. Usually, I like to finish series I start collecting. And Yugioh lasts over 200 and something episodes.
I'm not into the series enough to spend a lot of money on it and I can't really afford it although I am slightly tempted to buy Volume 1 just to support 4kids uncut releases. I do want to see how the uncut dub turns out though so I'll try to see if I can watch it somehow.
But anyway, I do plan to get uncut Shaman King if I can. I like that series better.
Let's hope for an uncut One Piece...
Yu-gi-oh Uncut - Volume 1: The Shadow Games
Yu-gi-oh Uncut - Volume 2: The Insector Combo
Shaman King Uncut - Volume 1: A Boy Who Dances with Ghosts
Shaman King Uncut - Volume 2: Perfect Possession

LOL, yes Koko, I have met quite a few of these moms in my life. It's very depressing and sadly true.
It's funny how conveniently we pick and choose for ourselves, and then freely pick and choose for everybody else - as if we know what is best for everyone.
I can not imagine that Yu-Gi-Oh uncut is all that much worse than DBZ or YuYuHakusho uncut. That review had to be wayyyy off, as many reviews I see when it comes to anime. For some reason, America continues to see anime with a different pair of glasses than they wear when they review movies.
Anyways, to support the uncut market, I may purchase the first DVD. And, like many others here I would love to buy the One Piece uncut (I just hope they place at least 4 or 5 episodes of this extremely long series on each disc, or I'll reconsider
).

That's probably referring to the fact that Harpy Lady's outfit was slightly mroe abbreviated in the original version. It was completely exaggerated in your quote.
EDIT: I don't think so, Kokoro. Shonen Jump is pretty much the same as it was in Japan. However, some items might have been toned down SLIGHTLY. For example, Make-Out-Paradise, the "adult manga" Kakashi reads in Naruto had its title changed from something a bit more risque. Also, Yugi and Jounuchi suspected that Anzu may have been "dating" old men for money. That's about it, I think. Perhaps you could count that they made the text quite a bit larger for Naruto's Harem no Jutsu, as to cover up more of the naughty dopplegangers.

As a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh!, I felt I should post something here.
The uncut version of the show is different in many regards. For instance, 90% of the dialogue was changed for the dub, partly to make it more "Englishized", I think, partly to remove swear words (the s-word gets dropped a few times in the uncut episodes I saw, but I recall mostly the b and d-words), and partly to remove some crude joking (I don't recall there being all that much, but there is some).
Now as to the issue of nudity, this comes more into play in regards to the duels between monsters. Some of the female monsters have lower tops or costumes accentuating or hinting at their features. Frankly, I don't remember this happening in the show a lot, but it is there. I don't recall any explicit nudity, per se. There is a scene in one episode in the show where Tea is taking a shower, but you don't see anything. The most it gets played for is that Yugi and Joey look in in, Tea screams, and they are told promptly by another character to scram.
Violence...I don't recall seeing any blood in the series. As with the issue of nudity, the violence takes place mainly in the card game. You will see monsters skewer, cut off the heads, fire shots, etc. at/ of another monster, but there is no blood and the monster holograms quickly shatter (particularly if the outcome would look somewhat gruesome), so it never bothered me at all (and I'm not a person who usually is bothered by violence in anime). Some characters are threatened with guns, but I don't recall anyone ever being shot.
As to my opinion of the series, Duelist Kingdom is somewhat interesting, but frankly the story gets more interesting in the Battle City arc , as the duels became more interesting and we finally get to learn more of the Egyptian background to the story. It was really those episodes that made me admire the show, and if I ever bought any of the uncut DVDs, it would probably be of those episodes instead.
The most interesting arc of the series, though, has not yet come out in English: the Pharaoh's Memory Arc. It will be dubbed in one or two years, though, so it may be a while before that becomes uncut as well.

Yeah it's really annoying that everyone in america seems to think that cartoons are purely for kids when that is clearly not the case. And it's not just anime even that isnt for kids even though it's a cartoon. Futurama and family guy i think arent for kids. Until we get rid of that stupid opinion everyone seems to have anime will never be truly accepted.
It's okay for american companies to show stuff like family guy but not okay for the japanese to show things like hamtaro. I think that's a double standard If an american company made a hentai it would probably be fine for everyone. It's just xenophobia i think.

Of course they aren't! Especially Family Guy!
With the whole "cartoon is for kids" thing, well they don't put these things on night TV for nothing! Kids are supposed to go to bed at 8 and if there's cartoons on past 9:00, that's more for us big kids. I mean, look at Adult Swim. Runs until like 3 in the morning! That's too late for me even since I get up early on the weekend. *shrugs* All I watch "late night" is Witch Hunter Robin at 10:30 on YTV.

Although I don't recall any xenophobia for Super Book or Flying House. (My first anime)
I'm actually kind of up in the air on this one now, but I'm leaning towards not buying it.

Well after reading the review and everyone's opinions. I see it as just any uncut anime.
i was first surprised when I heard in Outlaw Star which was currently bieng played on Toonami say the bas-word and the d-word. They off course slipped up. I immeditaely turned the t.v. off fearing my parents hearing it and then I turned it back on lowerin gthe volume.
Now I don't even flinch when they say the b-word or the s-word. Is this a good thing. No, not really. It means I've been desensitized to cussing.
I support uncut and everything but we as Christians, should still be careful in what we watch and that it doesn't decensitize us to society.
I just felt like throwing in my rwo cents ^_^

Yes, exactly!
Me and brother both like the show, but I think I would feel uncomfortable seeing scantly clad women with him around. Now the cussing and violence I could probably take better, but you know that's just me. *shrug*
So I'm not saying not to buy it, and in hindsight I should have put up a few more reviews from different standpoints so I don't sound like a complete killjoy
So that being said it would be cool for those who get a hold of copy to post a full indepth review of it from a Christians stand point, it'd probably help tons more than a few short reviews.
God Bless,
Souba

So let me make sure I'm clear on this:
The dubbed version is the 4Kids version that currently airs at 8:30PM on Cartoon Network. This "uncut" version is just a sub, and darker? Anything I've missed?

No, the dubbed version on the uncut DVDs is a new uncut dub that uses most of the same voice actors with a script that is a very accurate translation of the Japanese version (with the exception of names).
Both the dub and sub on these DVDs are also totally uncut graphic-wise.

OK. Are the episodes the same in leignth? I don't see how they could be, as CN airs a zillion commercial breaks in the half-hour time slot.

No, the dubbed episodes are about 18 to 20 minutes in length. The uncut episodes, in contrast, are about 23 to 25 minutes.

Think Blockbuster or wherever would have the uncut version avalible to rent? Or do you think they'll stick to the 4Kids versions?

That's good. I wish they wouldn't cut it at all right from the start, though; that's part of the reason you have problems with mom's picking the manga off the shelves for the little kiddies. If the anime had been released uncut originally, pretty much no one would be under the illusion that it was a happy little cartoon meant for eight-year-olds.

Ok, according to the posts in Toonzone[see my earlier link], Yugioh volume 3 comes out in January and then they are on a 3month release schedule. No hard facts backing it up were given tho, and since I'm not a member[and had no wish to sign up for yet another forum] I couldn't ask questions. So JesusFreak, you sign up and ask questions. I did the scrolling\reading for you....

Blast! Cause I just got ahold of the person who was making the 3month release schedule claim and they admitted it wasn't based on anything. Oh well.
