Well i really like "Fighting Spirit." It's japanese name is Hajime no Ippo. ITs a newly dubbed (orginally made in early 90's) anime and it's about a guy named Ippo and his love for boxing. THough it's a 15dvd set; about 75eps. Another good one is GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka). That is about a 45eps. Its very funny; though a bit for the mature audience 16+.
I also personally like Grave of the Fireflies (movie) which is a great movie and Vandread. Also i just got done watching I'll CKBC (Crazy Kouzu Basketball club) which i fairly good. Though if you don't like basketball it may not be your type of thing.

The word 'impossible' isn't in my dictionary... but I don't really have a dictionary you know? - Eikichi Onizuka.
Sorry, but I stop being a teacher at 5 o'clock. - Eikichi Onizuka.

In anime I prefer the movies of Hayao Miyazaki, like "Castle in the Sky", "Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro", "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke". I would like to point out that you should judge Miyazaki's work as a whole based on "Mononoke" and "Spirited" because both, despite being good, suffers from terminal weirdness.

Yeah, can't go wrong with a Miyizaki movie. I second all of J's suggestions.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

It isn't new, but Gundam Wing is still one of the best Anime shows around. Lots of cool action and intriguing philosophy.

Gundam Wing is awsome, but personally Cowboy Bebop is the best

Yeah... Rurouni Kenshin is not new, but it is very good. I also recommend Zoids:Chaotic Century, which ain't new but is very good. The only slightly new series I can recommend is Gundam Seed.

Seed was horrible! Probably one of the lamest and most badly written animes I've ever had the misfortune to watch. Nothing happened in the episodes! (Something like DBZ, only worse.)

I'm not trying to insult you or anything, and there are a lot of worse anime shows out there, but in my opinion...
