What is better Anime or Manga?

Postby yoshiama12 » Mon Oct 11, 2004 2:36 pm

personally i find that manga go into more depth and detail then anime. Though sometimes they go allitle to far and the anime lightens them allitle bit. I find that only Naruto is where i like the anime more than manga because the action is better when you see moving people rather than drawn screens. Oh! My Goddess is so much better than the OVA. Also Kenshin was a MUCH better manga than anime series. What do others think? More detail and description in manga or more active moving people in anime?

I tend to like manga over anime, but it's probably just because I have more access to manga. (I can walk into a book store and read manga without buying it, but I don't have that same opportunity with anime) I also think I like manga better because I feel it better conveys more subtle mannerisms, but I really do love them both!
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I prefer manga over anime in most things. It is usually cheaper, and like in Rurouni Kenshin, it is much better. Plus, you actually have to use your brain in reading. That is why my mom likes it better if I read the manga over watching the show.
In the anime, though, you can show much more movement in it and it is easier to understand a few times.

If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case." - Chuck Close

Manga over anime for three reasons:

1. It's cheaper in the short run.

2. It tends to go more in depth than the anime will.

3. Some anime never finish animating the manga, or have a different ending. Examples: Shaman King, Rurouni Kenshin, and others

Not to say anime isn't good however. It has its good points as well.

Subtitles are an exception.... it's like reading a manga with moving pictures!

I really think each have their own good qualities. Yeah manga can be longer, better, have a better ending and so on, but anime has nice visuals, nice music, mostly good voices, and above all, nice CoLoUr. Makes the show come alive....

Besides, one good thing about them is that they can have different stories or endings. Spinoff stories using the same characters can be nice^^ Sometimes you want the same characters to be around, but not always the same exactly story all the time. (eg. Rayearth OVA, manga and anime. The manga and anime are similar, but the OVA has an entirely different storyline altogether.)

I like both anime and manga but anime is much more widely available in Australia than manga. You can only buy manga at specialty comic stores (even then you have to be lucky). I enjoy manga but I bought a GunSmiths Cat manga and it was far from cheap ($42.00 Aus!). So here most anime is probably cheaper than manga. Ofcourse the digimon, pokemon, robotech manga are available for cheaper ($15.00 Aus) but they are the only ones that are cheaper and don't interest me.

Our family had an Japanese exchange teacher staying over some years back and I was interested in the whole anime/manga art form but I didn't have any. We had a great time and then he returned to Japan. Occasionally he would send gifts to us and this is how I acquired all but one of my manga. All in all he sent a Doramon manga, a Kobo the Lil' Rascal manga and 6 volumes of The New Kindaichi Case Files manga. They have both the original Japanese and an English translation.

I love manga, but anime is cheaper here so I say I've had a little more 'experience' with anime.

I have more respect for Manga than anime since a lot of anime is based on manga. And like Orogirl said it requires you to use your mind unlike anime. However I love watching animation and dealing with animation with my movie maker programs on my computer.

It depends. In a manga, you can better understand dialogue, because you can read more and more before turn the page, and the voice, the music, the atmosphere, is all in your head. But to feel better the action, I think that I manga usually is not enaugh, and an anime is better.

It is funny. At school, I sometimes bring manga to pass the time and the kids are like "oro?". The teachers are even funnier, 'cause all of them are totally clueless, not just some.

I would have to say Anime.
Manga is OK, but I personally don't like reading comics with the pictures all bunched up, and no sound/color, plus Anime get's to be on a big screen!

Hm...I guess kinda both. Manga is great because, like others have said, it goes more in depth. Also, manga is probably going to be closer to the original, because they don't have to worry about getting everything in the same amount of mouth-flaps.

Animes are sometimes easier to understand, though, PRETICULARLY with action titles. Reading Trigun and Rurouni Kenshin is sometimes confusing, because I can't figure out...what's going on. ^^; It can get confusing. I generally don't have that problem with anime, though. Also, it's nice to see color every once in a while. XD

Hmm...I guess I like both. XD

to me manga is way better because:

1. cheaper.
2. easy to preview before buying.
3. portable.
4. manga art is often much more rich and detailed than anime art.
5. plots and characters have more depth (usually).
6. manga communicates what the creator originally intended. (unless it's one of those cases where the anime came first.)

I can only think of one bad thing about manga: in action titles, sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on, but they usually have ways of making their point.

Which is better? Ha. You may as well ask which do you prefer - water or air? Would you like to eat this month, or would you rather be allowed time to sleep? Do you walk to school, or do you carry your lunch?

Silly question!

Well what your answer i mean if your going comment at least anwser the question in thoughful or persauding way. First off you using circular reasoning to support you anwsers and random connections which are unarguble however they do show the stupidity of the one whom cannot come up with any arguement without using speech incorrectly so one can not argue against it. Remember also don't comment unless you have something useful or uplifting!

I felt your comment to termyt was extremely uncalled for, especially when you told him he was "showing stupidity?" He answered the way he wanted to answer - and that is not open to judgement. However, calling someone "stupid" is. His term, "silly question!" to me only meant that he was being a bit sarcastic in his humor. I honestly don't think termyt was making a cut at your question when you started this thread. I believe you should apologize to termyt for calling him "stupid."

On this topic: I'd actually agree with termyt to some degree. However, I don't think you starting this thread was silly at all. It's an interesting idea and an answer like Shiroi gave was a very thoughtful and insightful answer.

For me, I enjoy both equally. When I want to "veg" out I watch anime. If I'm really into a manga series I read it and I enjoy the art. To me, they are very equal and I could never pick one over the other.

YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.
