Warning! Cowboy Bebop spoiler!

Postby shadowblade » Tue Sep 28, 2004 2:26 pm

Well, anybody who hasn't seen Cowboy Bebop all the way through definitely shouldn't read this. But anyway... just wanted to know if you guys think that Spike really died in the last episode. I really don't think he did. You never see his grave, nothing. He just collapses and it ends. So who's to say that he wasn't rescued or something? Maybe he actually was alive, and he went on to become the leader of the Red Dragon syndicate or something. Or maybe he went back to the Bebop and got together with Faye. Maybe the creators felt that wasn't too important or something. What do you guys think?

*pats brantelg's head* If that's what you wanna believe, you go ahead.
No, seriously, I never considered this before. I definately am gonna kill Studio Bones if he lived and they didn't tell us. Before I saw the last episode, I thought maybe we would get a funeral or something. I want CLOSURE, man!
Think happy thoughts.

Sadly, I think it's safe to say Spike is dead.

First of all, if he wasn't, then when they made the movie over popular demand, why didn't they set it after the last episode rather than between episodes 22-23?

Second, Julia was dead... she was the only person he wanted to keep on living for.

Lastly, there is a parallel in episode 6 (which I didn't realize until after seeing the ending) which suggests when he said 'bang', he was completed and ready to die.

Those are my reasons for believing he died. Sorry, brantelg.

Spike took a katana through his bowels. Chances of living = not very good.

I actually read a fanfic once titled "The Worst Fanfic Ever" about Spike being revived. I found the title to be quite accurate.

everything in the series points to his being dead... his past conflicts and desires have all been wrapped up; the music played as he lies dead; etc. etc. (I could elaborate if it hadn't been months since I've seen the series :P). All the symbolism, most especially the story about the cat with a million deaths that he tells Jet, indicates that he is quite and utterly dead at the end of the series.

The creators left this part of the series unexplained for us to ponder about. Some say there is a room for a sequel, but, the makers have stated before that there will be no sequel. I'd like to believe that Spike was indeed alive, but let us consider the logic. All the accumulated injuries over the years, the signs pointing to it...I must say, the chances of his surviving are quite slim. Though this is an Anime, and logic doesn't always apply...well, hardly ever applies.

Yes all the symbolism. Spike referring to himself as dying 3 years ago, Annie saying he came back from the dead, Vicious's comments, his cybernetic eye that sees the future and his real one that sees the past, Sitting Bull referring to him as being killed by a woman ie Julia 3 years ago, Spike saying he's been living in a dream, and the list goes on.

Basically the time while he was on the Bebop was his "purgatory" between when he left the Syndicate and Julia and finally seeing Julia die. After Julia died he decided to finally end the fued with Vicious.

Remember when Faye asks him why he chooses to meet death. He responds saying that he intends to find out if he is alive. In the end, he finds out that he was "dead" all along.

As far as Spike and Faye getting together. Well it was pretty obvious to me that Spike never had any interest in Faye as he was so caught up with Julia. And if anyone's going to get with Faye it would be Jet, but I'll talk about that another time.;)

As long as we're on the subject, I think Faye had an unrequited love for Spike, but Spike was too obsessed with Julia.

Yeah, I agree with you, CDL. I guess I just blindly hoped that Faye and Spike would get together. Lol. As weird as this sounds, I think I prefer the series ended like that. I think it's better that there really was no closure because I'd like to think that he survived, as slim as the chances are. :)

I think it works well to leave a few things unresolved at the end of a series just to keep you thinking. I also hate it when they revive characters that you thought were dead, like...

I think the directors gave us a clear cut answer to Spike's fate: the last thing we see is a flock of birds passing over the bodies of Spike and Vicious (before Spike's "Bang").

The only other time we see that: when Julia is fatally shot (but right before she dies).

I think Spike is dead.

Well, I don't think there's much point in saying "yeah, I think Spike died, too" since everyoen else has already done so. However, I do want to say that I don't think Faye ever TOO much of unrequited love for Spike. Their relationship always seemed more along the lines of "Well, there's not really anyone ELSE I can stay with..." being the girl without a past that she is.

Hey, im not gravedigging or anything, didn't want to start another thread and it is spolier related.

Okay, Why did Vicious kill the head of the Red Dragon crime syndicate Mai something in session 5, ballad of the fallen angels?

And there was a love trinagle between spike, Julia and Vicious, but why did Vicious flip out and want to kill Spike and Julia, just out of anger?

And what is the relationship between Spike, Vicious and the Mai something guy in session 5, they said something about him saving spike and vicious?

Anyone know?

>Why did Vicious kill the head of the Red Dragon crime syndicate Mao something in session 5, ballad of the fallen angels?

I'm not sure about this. But I didn't think Mao was head leader in the syndicate? I thought the those odd looking old guys were the head of the syndicate and Mai was a leader in a way, but not the head of the syndicate. Now, the reason why Vicious kill him. I think Mao wanted to change some of the ways that the Syndicate was going to be run and I think he was wanted to get out of it as for the syndicate. But once you are in the syndicate, you are in it for life or death. Plus, I think Vicious didn't want any of his old past going to get him after he was or would have taking over the syndicate. And I feel that also by killing Mai that it would bring Spike out of hiding.

>And there was a love trinagle between spike, Julia and Vicious, but why did Vicious flip out and want to kill Spike and Julia, just out of anger?

There was a love trinagle behind them. But I think Vicious kill her for a few reasons. A. because she didn't kill Spike, when Vicious told her to. B. He knew that if he kill her that he would take everything that Spike care in life. C. She was part of his past. Look at all the people that Vicious did kill and just about everyone of them were from his past.

>And what is the relationship between Spike, Vicious and the Mao something guy in session 5, they said something about him saving spike and vicious?

I think but I'm not sure on this. Mao took both Spike and Vicious in. There were like his children in a way. But I think Mai care for Spike more and when Spike and Vicious meet Julia. There is where their hate started for each other. I think Mao knew that Vicious was going to one day, try to take over the syndicate and he hope that Spike was going to come back and set things right in the syndicate.
