CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

...okay, I haven't bought any anime or manga in quite a while, but hanging around here is slowly inspiring me.

So, I'm looking for recommendations. I'll tolerate far, far more violence than I will sex. I'd rather avoid that whole issue if possible.

Also, nothing too dark and demonic thanks!

The last stuff I bought was the New Dominion Tank Police Series (much preferred the New series to the original movies - see above for reasons!); don't hear much about any of that series on here now I think of it! I also picked up good ol' Street Fighter 2.

I was thinking maybe Gundam.

Let's face it, I'm looking for a bit of escapism here I think. So something exciting/involving, and uplifting might be nice!

Anyone care to assist?

Great teacher Onizuka! Though it's a 48episode series. I would also recommend Vandread, Kenshin, and Grave of the Fireflies (movie) are good.

Last Exile (if you get this title, be sure you keep a firm hold on your brain, 'cause it's mind blowing at times.)



Just as a side note, Noir, which was mentioned above, is VERY awesome, but it does have a little bit of nudity. For further details, checkout the CAA review written by True_Noir_Chloe.

Cowboy Bebop! One of my favorite series... although I admit I haven't seen *very* many. Bebop is exciting and involving... not too sure about the uplifting part, but it has its moments. (A little warning though, Bebop can be a little fanservicey at times. I didn't find it distracting, but I'm a female.)

You may be interested in Martian Successor Nadesico (see review in database) the Record of the Lodoss War series, Zoids (Guardian Force or New Century), Iria (see review). You may even want to look into some classics like Robotech or Nadia.

Hmm... let's see... Trigun, Cowboy Bebop (has a bit of fanservice), Immortal Rain (it's a new manga; I don't think there's an anime yet), Rurouni Kenshin was definitely very good, G Gundam, Gundam Wing, Inuyasha (has a little nudity), and Dragon Knights (a very good manga). Hope you like them!

I'd reccommend Noir. It's definately an intresting anime. It's about two assassins who are trying to find out about the mysteries of their pasts. Oh and the music is awesome.

Also full metal panic is a good anime full of action. It does have some fan service but i think all of gonzos animes do. Being a gonzo anime means the animation is excellent. The show is half comedy and half serious action having seperate episodes for each and it works well. Well those are my reccommendations. Hope you enjoy them.

Although a couple of you stumped me with the 'demonic' focus. I perhaps should extend that to the occult, witchcraft etc.

And how about something I could sit down with a lady friend and watch - one who has never been in to anime/manga at all??

Well......the "goodness" of Endless Waltz depends on who you're talking to. <_< Gundam fans can be pretty scary...especially if you get an AC fan and a UC fan together. >_< If you've seen Gundam Wing, EW is loosely tied to it. Somethings are different.

I suggest Char's Counter Attack. I'm not much a Gundam person, but it was pretty good. Also 08th MS Team and 0080. The first one's nice and the second I haven't seen but apparantly it's so good with the characters and story line that you end up crying at the end. O_o Or my brother does at any rate. Also look into the 3 Mobile Suit Gundam movies.

If you want something light hearted and fun, go for Clamp's Angelic Layer. Unless you're not into electronics...trust me, you WILL want an Angel before the series is done.

Kiki's Delivery Service!! It's so very cute. Kiki is a witch, but it's nothing occultish in the slightest.

Princess Mononoke is good. Story of a prince who is cursed and cast out of his village to go observe the world with eyes untainted by hate and also to try and find a cure. It's a story of man v. nature, nature v. nature, man v. man, and man v. self. It's really very well done.

I suggest you try Onegai Sensei, Angelic Layer or Trigun

If you want beautiful art, good story, great graphics and very clean, you can go with:

Last Exile, Kino's Journey, Kaleido Star, and Haibane Renmai.

If you don't mind language a big favorite of girls is, Fruits Basket (watch in Japanese for less language)

Angelic Layer, Little Snow Fairy Sugar and Cardcaptor Sakura are very clean anime and they are for the child in you. ^__^

For a date? "Zaion, I Wish You Were Here" It is a tragic love story

Now, if you just want some fantastic comedy, definitely go with Azumanga Daioh or Slayers, even Comic Party.

great anime movies:

Spirited Away (a Hayao Miyazaki film -you probably have heard of him- and an excellent work of cinema.)

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (decent movie, no sex, accessible for people who don't know anything about anime)

My Neighbor Totoro (another Miyazaki film; less accessible to non-anime fans, but a great movie nontheless)

I agree with trying Endless Waltz. I absolutely DESPISE the series, but I really thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I thought it was well worth the time.

I know someone mentioned it earlier, but I REALLY think you should try Naruto. I think it's an amazing anime....I just wish they would quit dragging out the most recent episodes ^__^ If you get into it, you'll be drooling for more!

The only Gundam series that I don't Recommend is, Gundam 0083, Gundam F91 movie (I saw this one at AWA this past weekend and its the wrost UC Gundam story, I have ever seen so far.) and G Gundam.

Sonic x , fruits basket, & one pice are my fav. for anime & for manga Fruits basket, & .hack//legend of the twilight.

The main character of the story (IMO) isn't the title character, but the prince I mentioned. His name is Ashitaka. The story is very earthy in the sense that there are different animal "gods." Boar, monkey, wolf, that type. These are far larger than your typical given creature and they can speak. Ashitaka's villiage is threatened by a demon and in the process of distracting it, it touches Ashitaka's arm and curses him. Ashitaka's people are the last of their kind and so in order for him to have any hope of healing he has to leave. And leaving=exile for ever. But there's no choice and so Ashitaka willingly does so. He's been charged with the task of observing the world "with eyes unclouded by hate." I don't know how much more I can say without spoiling the movie for you, but he does end up meeting a lady named Eboshi and also comes across the girl they call Mononoke (known as San to the wolves). Eboshi and her iron works town represent man, the 'god" animals represent nature, and San and Ashitaka are kinda caught in the middle. San's been raised by the wolves and so sees herself as not human, while Ashitaka tries to mediate between the two conflicting worlds while dealing with the curse he bears.

It's a story that might leave you either dissappointed (for a number of reasons, though my old roommates reason takes the cake ), confused, or thoughtful. It's kinda hard for me to choose between siding with the humans or nature, and so left me thoughtful. All in all, it's a very good story with excellent art work and music.
