Need some more anime!

I'm looking for some more anime to buy but am not sure what's good. So far I've watched Cowboy Bebop, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Love Hina, Chobits, Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell and Arika and I liked all of them. I like mecha most of all, so can anyone recommend anything? I'm also wondering what people's opinions of Patlabor (1, 2 and 3) and Spriggan are. Are they any good?

Don't worry a mod will probably move it soon. Anyway I'd recommend as far as mecha goes these series. If you want to go with the original mecha series that made the genre popular then check out the Robotech saga or the original Gundam.

As far as newer series go besides the one's you mentioned Gundam 08th MS Team, Macross Plus, The Big O, Getter Robo, and Gundam Wing are good. There are plenty of others as well but those are off the top of my head. I've heard Patlabor though is pretty good but I have yet to see it.

Moved to the Anime forum.

I've heard *very* good things about Patlabor, although I myself have watched very little of it (what I did see, though, seemed pretty well constructed).

Dai-Guard! Dai-Guard! Dai-Guard!
Dai-Guard is an excellent mecha anime that is very funny and very well done. There is a tiny amount of language but (at least in the first 3 volumes which is what i have) nothing overtly sexual or any fanservice.

I've heard really good things about RahXephon. We have a review for it in the anime section. I haven't gotten around to watching it next, but it'll probably be my next anime series I watch. Maybe.

Pshaw. Gundam.

If anyone here reads Anime Insider, they would know that in the Last Man Standing battle of the Veritech vs. a Gundam, the Veritech completely annihilated the Gundam.

LONG LIVE THE VERITECH!

So I guess I'm throwing in my vote for Macross. I can recommend the Robotech: Remastered box sets now being released. Although every time I hear the english voice of Minmei sing it makes me wanna barf. Macross Plus, also very good. Sigh...if I had to recommend Gundam it would be the 08th MS Team. Escaflowne isn't really a mecha anime per se, but it does have 'em, and I like it a lot.

P.S. Chi! Chi rocks! She's so cute!

I'd say Escaflowne (both TV and the movie) and RahXephon... very nice shows.

Yeah I prefer Robotech and Macross over Gundam anyday too kaemmerite.:) And yeah I remember when I got the Macross Saga boxset and watched all the episodes I was getting so sick of hearing Minmei's singing I fast forwarded through it everytime. But yeah 08th MS Team is by far the best Gundam series.:thumb:

It may not be mecha, but you HAVE to see Rurouni Kenshin (especially the Kyoto arc) at least once in your lifetime.

EDIT: I have officially made a thousand posts!!! :jump:

I've seen the latest Patlabor movie and it's very good. However, it has almost nothing to do with the series who's name it bears. The characters from the Patlabor show (which I haven't seen yet) are mostly restricted to a few cameos, with the actual stars being a pair of miss-matched police detectives. For the most part, that actually helps people who haven't seen the show (like me) avoid feeling left out. However, it makes the ending (in which the regular Patlabor crew does all the work while they "stars" basicaly watch) feel really wierd. Still, it's extremely well made.

Nadia: Secret fo Blue Water is a show worth checking out as well, though (in usual Gainax fashion) you occasionaly have to sit through some REALLY pointless fanservice. :stressed:

Big O is awesome. It doesn't get nearly enough respect.

The same goes for Blue Gender. This show blew me away. I loved the political maneuvering and infighting, cool and original mecha design (OMG BLADES ATTACHED TO THE BACK), hardcore fight sequences (but they weren't cheesy or over-the-top either), and gritty outlook. I didn't like Yuji's (main char.) whining at first, but he gets over it. I didn't like some aspects of the love story. (it's a little overplayed. like the one-minute kissing sequence in the last episode. geez.)
