Sad, depressing anime?

I'm looking for some tearfest anime...

You know, stuff that makes you cry, with a depressing story...

Some of the sad anime I've seen so far are Saikano, KGNE, Millennium Actress, Jin-Roh, Fruits Basket, and probably others..

Can you guys suggest me some? I'm probably going to get Now and Then Here and There soob, but I'm not sure how that rates on the sad-meter.

TIA.

Scrapped Princess is pretty sad in parts. although I'm not sure what would be a good way to see it right now. I don't think the DVDs are out just yet.

A Girl in Gaea (Escaflowne the Movie) has a very touching ending... espeically if you watch it in JPN w/subs and then watch the credits role with Yubiwa playing with the lyrics on the screen. VERY nice.

Now and Then, Here and There is very sad, introspective and depressing, but I mean in a good way. It will make you think and cry again and again. It's my current favorite anime drama of all time.

Besides the already mentioned Now and Then, Here and There and Grave fo the Fireflies, both very touching, good dramas, I also recommend Voices of a Distant Star.

Full Moon Wo Sagashite is sad. I know you wouldn't believe it by watching the first 20 or so episodes, but it is. And as Termyt said, Voices of a Distant star is sad. Not as sad as FMS or many of the titles listed by others in this thread, but it's still a crying title

I'm such a big baby. I cried constantly during Haibane Renmei... even when nothing sad was happening. It was just because the scenes reminded me of the sad ones.

Chrno Crusade was pretty sad too.

it's great, but it drags a little in the middle. it's about a 12-year-old girl with throat cancer. she meets the gods of death, the Shinigami (when you see them, you will understand why this show is awesome). they give her the power to transform into a 16-year-old version of herself so she can fulfill her dream of becoming a singer and meeting her childhood friend and sweetheart Eichi.

(Shinigami pics attached. search the forums for 'Meroko' and 'Takuto' to see much bigger, better pictures.)

The synopsis is as Panegyst said, and I know it sound thoroughly predictable and average-- but this show takes such an old set up and makes in great.

Doie! How could I forget Grave of Fireflies. That one is really sad. But if you don't like to watch kids suffer, don't watch this one. It let me crush for quite a while (I don't like war/kid movies. I just can't handle them)

Lots of people mentioned voices of a distant star, but hmmm... I didn't think that was very sad at all

of course I could just be insensitive

Of course Grave of the fireflies was terribly sad, only a complete jerk could watch that one without their eyes getting damp

Neon Genesis Evangelion is the most depressing anime I know of.
