Gundam becoming cliche?

It seems that way; I mean, just how many plot ideas are they going to keep recycling? Take Gundam Seed, I've enjoyed what I've seen so far (except for a certain inappropriate out-of-line scene in the opening credits) but it seems that it's going to be extremely predicatable.
Cliche 1: A seemingly ordinary teenager living on a colony is the only person within a hundred miles capable of piloting the Military's most sophisticated top secret weapon.
Cliche 2: A blond haired man wearing a white mask... I'm predicting he's going to turn out being the long lost brother of the mysterious blond in the first episode... (Anyone who's seen more of the series can correct me)
Cliche 3: The main character loathes the idea of having the chance of piloting the Military's most powerful weapon.
Cliche 4: Certain characters slightly resemble and have the EXACT same personalities as previous Gundam characters.
I'm hoping future episodes/shows will start getting more original; they can't keep recycling plot elements forever.

That's why I watched 2 minutes of Gundam Seed one day and haven't given it a second thought since. But anyway the Gundam saga in itself is really stretching itself thin after G Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam and it's sequels, Gundam Wing, and now Gundam Seed. There's not much left to do with the material now the Gundam saga just needs to be put to rest.

Nope.
I liked Gundam SEED. I loved 30-40.

Just in case you didn't know, SEED is supposed to be cliche. It's a re-telling, or re-imagining if-you-will, of the original Moble Suit Gundam story.

Which, in a way, makes it all the more disapointing. ("Yes, it's the same old thing you've seen done over and over again, but we did it that way ON PURPOSE!)

And Mobile Suit Gundam was a reimagining in itself...

Gundam Seed was really good, isaw some parrallels with earlier gundam stuff, but i've found the story and everything alot more impressive than gundam wing, there just seems to be much more quality of storytelling in Seed, plus gundam wing was way too political for my tastes, it kinda made it kinda bland

I liked the political stuff in Gundam Wing. But one really good thing about Gundam Seed is higher quality animation, and better battles. Maybe I'll end up enjoying this series better when I see the rest, though I'm going to wait for the whole thing to finish coming out on DVD before I finish the rest. I really wish they would release the original TV series with the Japanese language version intact...

I'm not even going to bother watching that one.

What awsam007 said. It is not only a retelling of the original, but it is a better telling, so we can be thankful for that. I agree that the story is a little more than tired now-a-days. It's used in just about every Gundam and the plots are very popular through out the Sci-Fi genre.

Hmm... I think the whole mecha concept is completely cliché... I watch Nadesico, Dual, and I watched Eva, but it was in SPITE of the mecha, definately not BECAUASE of them

Gundam...
Gundam Wing was one of my first intros to anime. Having intelligent villians like Treize and Lady Un were what really hooked me on it. having seen many gundam series now, I would have to say, yes, they are getting a bit too repetative. The two best are 8th team and 0080. Both of those series are about regular people in war, not uniquely gifted super kids or villians in masks. If they have to keep recycling stuff, they should borrow more from those.

The thing is, Gundam kind of invented some of the giant robot anime cliches...
