This may sound stupid, but, what is Hunter X Hunter?

Togashi's most recent manga.

Here's the basic plot:
The story tells of the adventures of 4 boys, each of whom attempts to acquire the valuable Hunter, a very respected and skilled adventurer/explorer/hunter/so forth in their world, license for different purposes by taking a very dangerous and very hard exam. They become close friends during the events of the exam and wind up having adventures with each other once the exam is finished.

Eh...
That probably wasn't a very good discription. But, oh well...

I guess the chaotic side of me is running high at the moment, as I have a strong urge to compare YYH and DBZ. Not that I would dream of doing so before having read all of DBZ.

Given that Toriyama's World has HunterxHunter via bittorrent, it must be unliscensed, so I might as well see what I think of it. But the thought occurs to me that we have drifted off topic quite a bit... topic?

*sniff* :sniffle: Why does it sound like everyone hates DBZ?
Oh my, have I gone off topic again? :forehead:

Well, yeah I think it really stinks that YYH is only once per week! I remember before it went off the air, I waited every day for that special time when it came on!

Well, I do wish they'll give DBZ a rest, it's not doing anything to improve it's popularity by re-running it over and over again. Lunis, you should go to the "anime you hate" thread, I'm not posting there for a reason, LOL! But don't worry, there's a handful of people here that still like DBZ including me (I'm partial to the manga though) ^^

Mave: I liked Level E! It's weird but actually kinda funny, even with all the gross creatures. I love it when he draws "realistic" people. At the end of the YYH manga he draws a bunch of these and some of them are plain scary XD XD XD I *really* did not need to know what Botan looked like "realistically".

BACK TO TOPIC! Is there a reason they're stopping there? The Toguro fight is pretty awesome and in a way sorta heart-wrenching. I was also laughing my head off in the manga to find out Yusuke, even after battling Toguro, was finally knocked out by an unlikely person.

Was Botan that bad? I can't remember how it looks like anymore, all my YYH manga are back in Malaysia. :( But I'll always remember the realistic version of Kurama/Youko Kurama's coz Youko's nose was so dark (no offense but it's like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer! ) Level E was kinda weird but I do like the realistic ppl as well. I'm trying to integrate that realistic look among the few drawing styles I have. ^_^

heh, I laughed at how Yusuke was carried out from the stadium by that same unlikely person. :D

Aah! Don't tell me!! I want to find it out myself!!

Are there any YYH videogames? If so, what are they like, and are they any good? And are there any in America? I would love a YYH videogame!!!

There is one YYH game for the Game Boy Advance. It was relased not too long ago, but didn't receive very positive reviews. It is basically a derivative platformer, which isn't conducive to quality.

Nevertheless, if you really want a YYH video game, the option is there. :)

You're all...all...*stares at all the fangirls*...all...crazy. Yep. ;^^x

I used to like YYH for a while when it was on Toonami but it was just too weird. (the first one I saw was when Kurama almost died to save his mother, then the one after that was THE weirdest episode of any Anime I've seen in a lifetime: the first one with Hiei. BIG ORO.)

Anyway if I had to have a favorite, it'd be Yukina. She's a lot like me, I guess. Especially with all the animals. ;^^x

Oh well. *tosses a picture to the fangirls* (ooh and I have loads more if anyone wants to see them...)

I am beginning to enjoy Yu Yu Hakusho more as a read it in Shonen Jump. A lot of the manga-ka's style I saw in Hunter x Hunter is coming through. This is beneficial, as it includes some features I very much enjoy. Also, I feel that Yu Yu Hakusho has a much better set of characters, and does not have some of Hunter x Hunter's failings.

The earlier episodes were kinda weird...but I enjoyed the "Rescue Yukina mission" and the later episodes involving the tournament stuff. I think it's worth giving the rest of the episodes a try. ^_^

I read it in the Shonen Jump last night...it was actually pretty good though I've seen all the episodes up until around the end of the tournament, so I knew what wuold happen. It was pretty funny. ^^x (But, the artwork is very...unusual...pretty different from the show.)

Would you be so kind as to define that? Now, I must preface that by saying that I have seen/read relatively little of Yu Yu Hakusho compared to the entire series, so if it is a later development, simply inform me of such. As far as I knew, however, Kurama was half-demon.

The red-haired Kurama we see is actually 'half-human'. A quick run through just wha the is... do correct me if I'm wrong:
Kurama is basically the reincarnation of a demon fox thief who escaped/hid(?) to the Nigenkai. The first real glimpse of youko (or demon) Kurama would be during the Dark Tournament where he was caught in the 'time-reverse mist' thing or another and was reverted to his pre-human birth form: his demon form. He's cool, much more serious and deadlier than the wide-eye Kurama. Heh, it's nothing compared to Yusuke's demon form however...
Well! It's been quite a while since I been in this thread ^^

A response to UC's curiosity....Hope I'm accurate in my descriptions. It's been a while since I've read YYH. (My complete manga set is in Malaysia T_T)
In demon form, Yusuke gains A LOT of head hair, long and wild looking. He develops skin runes (patterns) on his face and body. This form is "resurrected" in his fight against Sensui and he becomes very powerful, aggressive and cruel(?). I can't describe the power he gains but he does kick Sensui's butt HARD. 0.o;;;;; But luckily, Yusuke snaps out from the savage demon mode before killing Sensui and goes back to the Yusuke that we know. Phew.....

(Bigger spoilers as you scroll down...as to why this is important(?) )

It's revealed that Yusuke is half demon, half human. His dad is Raizen, one of the 3 big bosses of the Makai World. To make it short and sweet, Raizen reveals Yusuke's true nature because he is dying and hands over the kingdom to Yusuke. Ok that's enough for now. ^_^
About Kurama

Postby Mave » Tue Jun 15, 2004 12:36 pm

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to differentiate the spoiler discussions on Kurama and Yusuke.
Heh, I don't really know how to describe Kurama. He's not really human and neither can we classify him as 100% youkai material. To add on to Ann's description, I think red-headed Minamino Shuichi is a result of an injured (probably dying) and fleeing fox thief into a fetus of a human woman. A reincarnation of the fox thief or hostile takeover of a human soul? Either ways, it's kinda creepy when you think about it (if it were to happen in real life). >_<
