Quoted b/c I experienced this myself with Blue Gender. I'm never doing the whole "this looks good, never heard of it, think I'll watch" again. I'll do my research first.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. the 14 episode hentai OAV Bible Black depicts Jesus in the dub I read. Evangelion is another one that may come to mind. Maria-Sama Miteru is offensive as is a yuri two Catholic school girls.

Hey, isn't Hellsing's Iscariot, the Catholic Organization, a misrepresentation of Catholicism itself?

Hey, isn't this thread about a year old? That's called necromancy. And that's offensive to Christianity.

That depends on what era of Catholicism we're talking about.

I could be pedantic and say that it's impossible to offend a set of beliefs, but possible to offend those who hold those beliefs, but that's really neither here nor there.

I actually thought of two titles when I read this thread.

The first is the series Black Lagoon, which I follow from time to time because it reminds me of classic action movies. I'm mostly thinking of the "Church of Violence" organization, which uses the theme of a Catholic church as a front for illegal smuggling. I consider it more of a use of Christian imagery for "flavor," which anime is notorious for. However, I can understand why others would be offended and would prefer if they had used a different theme. You could also cite many of the characters' philosophies, but it's a series about mercenaries, smugglers, organized crime, assassins, etc. - what do you expect? It would be ludicrous if they were moral people.

The second is the manga "Saint Young Men," which I actually enjoy. It's a silly slice-of-life series . . . about Buddha and Jesus sharing an apartment in Japan. I kid you not. Obviously, the theology of the manga's world is ridiculous. It seems to allow all the world's gods to exist simultaneously (as I recall). It's pretty funny, though - at least in my opinion.

I don' think there are many anime that are deliberately offensive, though. And I, at least, have a pretty thick skin about such things. You have to in this world.

While there are Anime shows that can be offensive to Christianity, there are American shows that can be even more offensive.

I've said it before but... I love that series. And I really DON'T see it as offensive-- it's a gentle parody that doesn't attack believers of either religion, and while its portrayal of Jesus is way off, it's not terribly extremely blasphemous.

Now, Let's Bible, a manga by two Korean artists, which depicts Jesus resurrected as a cute girl with large endowments, would DEFINITELY be pushing it. No love for that =(

Wot, no respect?

I mean, seriously, Jesus as a little girl with large "artillery shells"? That's worst than a nun with a revealing dress or a priest/minister being portrayed as a modern-day Inquisitor!
