Hmm, my very first anime that got me into the genre?
Sailor Moon, of course. Absolutely adored it when I was younger and collected all the dolls and everything from the strangest places.
Then Pokemon, Digimon, and a censored version of Yu Yu Hakusho (back when it was on Toonami).
There was a break, about two years, when I didn't really care about it and was doing other things. Then, when I found a Fruit Baskets DVD in the teen outpost library at the age of 13, I got right back into it.
That's why I like Shigure so much, because he was the reason I got hooked back into anime. Well, and the nostalgic memories of Sailor Moon.
How did you get into anime?

Well, I started out on the usual: Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon, Hamtaro(fwee!), and of course, Speed Racer! The new Speed Racer movie was an abomination, though. 
Anyway, eventually I pretty much went to all Pokemon, and stayed that way until the show started absolutely failing at life. Then, this past year, a few good friends of mine (who were all seniors that I'll never see again after Homecoming ;-;) got me started geeking out over Anime, and I've just started Wolf's Rain, which looks REALLY good, and also plan to watch Sailor Moon and Digimon, before moving out of my childhood and on to...*shrug* who knows?

it happened in stages.
When I was in first grade, I was flipping through channels, and came across Sailor Moon. I instantly fell in love and was a big fan for some time. The only problem: I'm a guy. Ah, when I resiliently wore my Sailor Moon shirt to school one day, you can imagine how mercilessly the other boys made fun of me.
In early 6th grade, The Vision of Escaflowne aired briefly on Fox Kids. Though the Americanized version is far inferior to the original, it was still so much better than any other show I'd ever seen that, when it left the air, I didn't stop being heartbroken until late high school and college, when I finally saw the original On Demand and online.
But I didn't really cross the Rubicon (waltz proudly into the manga section at Borders) until October of last year. I was watching AMVs with the Smile.dk song "Butterfly," and one was a tribute to Bleach's Rukia Kuchiki. I got hooked on the anime, and decided to take the plunge and buy the manga as well.

...you must begin a reading program immediately so that you may understand the crises of our age... Begin with the late Romans, including Boethius, of course. Then you should dip rather extensively into early Medieval. You may skip the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. That is mostly dangerous propaganda. Now that I think of it, you had better skip the Romantics and the Victorians too. For the contemporary period, you should study some selected comic books.

Well, when I was little, I would always watch Digimon, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Medabots, Cardcaptors, Yugioh, etc (never knew they were called anime at the time, thought they were normal american cartoons). My interest grew even bigger when my friend introduced me to the anime Sprited Away. But after some time, I began to dwelve off it until, lo and behold, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball. I eagerly waited for that show everyday on Toonami. In which I soon grew attached to alot of mecha anime like G Gundam, Transformers Armada, etc. I even began to watch Hamtaro almost everyday as well, which really made me want a hamster for a pet. In eigth grade, I became a huge anime fan (moreso mecha fan) and, here I am, in love with anime.

What about Speed Racer? 0_o that's the one that's distanced from the others for 20 years. Also, you watched Dragon bal after many series that actually came after it. Are you one of those guys from Sci-Fi stories that age backwards and experiment history on reverse?

I was in material arts when I was 5 to 8 years old. My brother showed my Kenshin and I loved the samurais and the fighting in it, Of course I didn't know it was anime until about two years ago when my brother got in to anime again then I started watching it with him, and now I love more then he does lol^^
other kenshin my first animes with out knowing they were animes were, Digimon and Tenchi (bad anime lol) and sailor moon and tokyo mew mew power
