The aforementioned Sakura/Tomoyo friendship in CCS. Tomoyo cares about Sakura's happiness more than her own. Their friendship is just so sweet and cute!

Also as Kisa mentioned, Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu from MKR. The bonds of their friendship were forged in adversity, as they had to rely on and trust in one another in an unfamiliar and dangerous new world.

Miaka's friendship with Yui in Fushigi Yugi is incredible as well, even though Yui doesn't always return it. Miaka continues to believe in her friend no matter what.

I think the friendship between Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric in Full Metal Alchemist is adorable. The determination the two have to restore the other's body is admirable. I also like the fact that Ed, despite being the older brother, is less mature then Al :forehead: Its cute!!

Hmm...so many great friendships have been mentioned!!! Tomoyo/Sakura is classic! Also, I think the friendship between Van and Merle from Vision of Escaflowne is sweet, though sometimes annoying ("Van-sama!!"). Also, the trios from Fruits Basket, Tohru/Uo/Hana-jima and Shigure/Hatori/and Ayame are wonderful (and hilarious)!

Shigure: Yes...the Three Muskateers

Kyo: More like the Three Idiots!

Gon and Killua (Hunter x Hunter): They geniunely care about each other, especially that time when Killua was imprisoned at home and Gon took on numerous headbashing from the child security guard who would not let him pass to see Killua.

I gotta agree, the 5 pilots from Gundam Wing, and what about the Seigaku starters from Prince of Tennis? I thought they developed comaradarie as a whole team as the series progressed.

Hmm... yea, it's pretty hard to find girl-guy friendships in Anime/manga without any romantic innuendos.

I'm rooting for Gon and Killua as well. ^^ Has anyone mentioned Yoh and Amidamaru or Manta?

As for friendship between genders... I think the girls in Naruto count. Most of them are pretty loyal with their team-mates and despite 'canon' pairings, I do believe they are just really good friends.

Ah, how could I forget the mother of all girl and girl friendships: Sailor Moon. Usagi with the inner senshi particularly.

The girls of Azumanga Daioh have a good relationship. They seem to be very accepting of each other's <ahem> eccentricities.

Oh yeah, an example of a good girl/guy relationship that isn't necessarily romantic?
How about Vash and Meryl? There was some tension there, but it was mostly platonic. In order to avoid any romance, you'd have to look at kid's movies, where the subject is more or less ignored- like Pazu and Sheeta in Laputa.

I havent watched it in a long time (since its over and all), but I always thought the friend ship of Gene Starwind and Jim Hawking from OutlawStar was very complimentary.

Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Seita and Setsuko from Grave of the Fireflies. Their love for one another is strong despite their tragic fate....

GoTF has impacted me a lot, if you can't tell already ^^;.

Love is that feeling you get when a girl looks at you and it feels like your driving a car at high speeds and experience a sudden drop. You know what i mean? That sudden sinking feeling you get in your stomach? Yeah, that's love. Leave's you speechless everytime.

This may seem a little strange, but I would say that Yusuke and Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho are great friends. They seem to truly love each other in a platonic way. (No, I am not saying they are a girl/guy friendship, I just wanted to specify that I don't they were homosexual in any way.)

Ryuho and Kazuma from S-Cry-Ed.

I do not believe that hatred is the opposite of love, rather I believe that indifference would be the opposite of love. Think about it, when you hate someone, you become obsessed with them. I think that this is why you see so many intense rivalries become such good friendships in anime.

I love rivalries.
Yeah, I'm that opinionated.

So otaku, but not...

I agree with you.... great point! Rivals can be friends... Like Akira & Hikaru, Sasuke & Naruto (kind of....), and Ken & Daisuke (Digimon).
