Here's the deal guys...even though TECHNICALLY it's pronounced mon-gah, I find that incredibly retarded and about as intelligent sounding as a redneck trying to read a medical book. Ah yes and to be on topic I read the manga just a few days ago and it's hilarious. It's a nice happy story, or at least I think so, considering that that was the first thing I read after chobits *sniffle*...

Well I can understand you Ashley. I'm from Tennessee, so any average person around here would pronounce it "mayne-guh" (although my accent isn't very strong). I've been trying really hard to pronounce it the right way, but it's gotten to the point where my cousin has to hit me every time I say it wrong...

I watched the trailer. It looked pretty funny.

Anyways, I used to pronounce it "main-gah" or "man-gah" or something along those lines until I found out the proper pronuciation.

A little question on the manga (who proudly pronounces it MAIN-gah):

Does Yukari-sensei teach English or Spanish? I have the first volume, and the students' books clearly say "English I," while in some strips they show the students speaking Spanish in Yukari's class, and sometimes Yukari tells people to write something in English...it just confuses me. Can someone clarify it for me?

Yukari is a foreign language teacher. In the case of the original Japanese edition that language was English. Of course, when the title was translated into English, English would no longer be a foreign language. Therefore, when this was published in English (primarily for a reading audience in the U. S.) the language she is teaching is Spanish.

I understand...last year I received about $200 worth of birthday money and it just disappeared...stupid Chobits phase

Bump.... had to do it.

Was in Best Buy today (picking up a new HD 80Gigs for 100 with a 50 rebate, but that's besides the point).

Having seen the half-dozen or so animated GIFs in the signatures but not ever having remembered (or known) the name of the show the where from, when I saw it on the shelf (thanks to the big box set thingie that they had sitting there).

I don't normally buy Anime sight unseen.... but I'm glad I did.

I've only watched two of the episodes (I was only planning on watching 1

), but It's great! So to all the fine people sporting (or having had sported) Azumanga Daioh GIFs in their signatures, I think you.

Actually, ADV is releasing little 1-episode bites. I don't know if all the episodes will make it this way, but the first episode will soon be/is now available on "Animini" for, I think, $7 at Amazon. It includes a discount on buying the full disc, too.

On "manga" pronounction:
For my first couple months of....otakuhood....I pronounced everything wrong. :lol:

I said "anamay," "mainga," "sayajen" (Saiyajin) and..."Azomainga dieoh". However, I have a friend who says "managa." :lol:

I've heard it pronounced both ways on other media(Television). Although manga is a romanized japanese word that would be pronounced as mahn-ga in Japanese, I find that pronounciation utterly ridiculous and it's my opinion that manga and anime have become English words on their own. I would thus pronounce manga as the word mango with the omission of the o and with the inclusion of the a. On a more on-topic note, I would pronounce Azumanga Daioh as Azumahnga Daioh because it doesn't sound as ridiculous and it is the original Japanese title as far as I know. By the way, as a South Floridian, I pretty much have no accent.
