True Kenshin does have battousai side, but he's still nice (to his friends). I meant Rurouni. Hey, how can someone add "-dono" to his enemy's name?

I agree that Kenshin seems to be the most polite in the most extreme situations. Chiyo/Tohru/etc. are only dealing with everyday life, more or less.

Okoshiyasu!

Postby Geirr » Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:40 pm

Men Candidates: Kenshin (he uses 'sessha for I/me) but also Kastushiro-sama from Samurai-7.

Women Candidates: Bathyscaphe from Narue no Sekai, Also, the Prime Minister of Japan as characterized in GITS/SAC 2nd Gig. Also the princess in Haru/Hachi** speaks GORGEOUSLY POLITE Japanese. (** "Harukanaru Toki no naka de Hachiyousho")

But then I got thinking, POLITENESS is doing whatever it takes so that your guest or acquaintance feels at ease and also fully included in athe social situation, even if the guest is breaking 'rules,' or doesn't know the 'aisatsu.' This can be VERY challenging in Japanese society because almost EVERY social situation is VERY structured. So in this case politeness also means great compassion and empathy. So with THAT in mind, the winners:

Man: Negotiator Yugo
(Runner up: Tsuna, from Otogizoushi)

Woman: A TIE between Kaneesh and Atosuryua from Banner of the Stars!

I agree on Alvis from Last Exile. Claus is also up there as well! There's also Rakka and Kuu from Haibane Renmei. Subaru from .hack SIGN.

Kenshin from Rorouni Kenshin and Cho Hakkai from Saiyuki...they're so polite its almost scary!
"Ah, look, Kouryuu...the birds are returning north. Can you see? ...Kouryuu. Who do you suppose decided birds are free? They can fly wherever they choose...but if there's no branch for them to return to...they might regret having wings, don't you think? Perhaps true freedom...is having a home to return to."

When I first saw this thread, Quatre Winner from Gundam Wing came to mind. But I don't know anything about the polite forms of language and weather or not he uses them. I do think he's pretty polite.

But now that I think about it, I'd say it's Tohru. Because she didn't/doesn't go crazy and try to kill people.

Tohru. As it says in the manga, "She ever SNEEZES politely!"
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I'd definitely have to say Khyron from robotech. He gave Azonia, his lady-friend a kiss, then he let her pilot a battlepod out to battle. then in ep. 35, he was nice enough to give everyone a "present" from Santa Clause! Man, what a nice guy. I'm sure there are droves of Khyron fangirls! Lol!

Well, he *does* do all that, but other than the phony British accent, there isn't anything particularly cultured (let alone nice) about it ;) ...

With alll respect, nonsense. Kenshin's past only enhances his case. Someone who has been so used to killing without remorse shows immeasurable character to become so gentle and meek. Kenshin's past placed him at a disadvantage for such a turnaround; that he pulled it off makes him specially remarkable, IMO.

It's like comparing an 11 story building starting at ground level with a 12 story building that is in a 2 story-deep hole. From one perspective, the 11 story building appears taller, but the 12 story building is in reality the taller building, though it reaches a lesser height above ground.

But then again, I have never seen Fruits Basket and am a die-hard Kenshin fan.

Good point, Raiden.

I had those suspicions as well, shoorai, yet it has been long since I watched Robotech. I rmember hating Khyron, but not as much as Kyle. bleeeh. (Sad thing is, there probably ARE fangirls for both of them.)

I have the Macross saga on dvd! And yes Shooraijin was right, it was just a joke.
Khyron is actually one of my fav characters, though, and one of my favorite anime villains. As for Kyle, yeah I hated him too.

I say Abel Nightroad from Trinity Blood is the nicest anime character.

One of my favorites right now. Some people say it is a copy of Hellsing, but it is not. One of the protagonist Abel Nightroad is totally different from Alucard and IMO better than him and the story line is totally different. He is kind and very helpful. Here goes a link giving a little description of the series. Trinity Blood

Sorry for going off the topic.

OMFG YES!! I totally agree! ^^

Trinity Blood is an awesome anime. ^^
And I agree with Otaku. It's better than Hellsing, and Abel's much more....likable than Alucard, in my opinion...

But yea, my votes on Abel-san
