Why does that surprise you?

You can find hentai doujins of practically any series. Pokemon? Yep. Digimon? Yep for that too. Cowboy Bebop? I've seen quite a few. Fruits Basket? More than you can imagine (but hardly any with Kagura which is weird). And yes, I've even seen Doraemon hentai doujins.

So yeah. I have no idea why you'd think a show is dirty because of doujins, because if that was the case you'd think all anime is porn.

I thought that because the name itself sounds like incest hentai. Or in the very least one of those "incest lite" shows. Just a badly named show...

Not necessarily. I heard from a friend who watched it that it didn't NEED fanservice to be dirty, and heard about a couple of the implications of a few 'clean' scenes.

I haven't seen it myself, but from what I hear it's questionable enough with incestuous undertones and some rather dirty implications that I wouldn't touch it. But I'm sure that Nate and Saiya have different opinions, and all levels of questionableness are really a matter of opinion.

OreImo is less objectionable than what general opinion would have you think, but still more than would be comfortable for most people here.

Speaking of objectionable content, I did a review for the series for CAA...will go up with the other recent ones by others, I think.

The show plays with the idea. In fact, the creators are masterful as hinting at the possibility of the bro and sis liking one another, while generally making it seem as if they're only growing close in a sibling way. I can think of only two or three scenes that really infer the possibility that one romantic feelings for the other.

Of course, that may be enough.

I discussed an episode that contained one of these scenes in a post a few months back.

That said, there's surprisingly little fanservice, although the series heavily involves eroge (mostly for humor). It's sometimes smart, often very relatable, and full of really strong characters. Good with the bad.

Wait how did I get dragged into this? I've never seen the show! XD I was just objecting to what I perceived as "There are hentai doujins so this show seems dirty." Seems I was a bit mistaken on that point though.

But honestly I probably wouldn't find the show all that offensive, no. Though I can see why some people do. I never had a sister so...yeah. :p Brother/sister stuff doesn't squick me out. If I had a sister, then maybe I'd be a bit disturbed, but...no way to know.

I read that post and you have some points. I don't really remember much of that episode, I'd have to go back and check again. But IIRC, the few hints of incest that are actually there are really subtle, and actually closer to lowlevel fanservice. There are blushes and studders here and there, but at the end of the day, it's made clear that they're just a normal bro and sis. That's just what I get from the anime. I can't stand the idea of them having an incest relationship, either. I'd drop it if it ever came close to that. It's why I almost didn't even start watching.

I'm approaching the halfway point of Panzer World Galient, which is sort of a traditional young-prince-reclaims-his-kingdom fantasy story, with giant skating robots in a low-tech setting (think of VOTOMS and Escaflowne at once). Except that it's taking an sf turn right now.

It's a lot of fun. Rather more fun, I think, than Dunbine.

Hmm...there is only one anime that I know that none of you have watched:

Kikoushi Enma (Demon Prince Enma)

Definitely one of the better, if not the best, Go Nagai related OVA out there. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere, characters, pretty much everything is great. Plus it has a great ED. (I have no idea why Hellsing in that video, but whatever.)
It is a truly scary horror anime, unlike so many jokes that call themselves "horror". The animation, while not terrific, helps the eerie atmosphere created by the great music. Even the CG, which is abit on the mediocre side for 2006, fits very well with the rest of the anime.

Cardcaptors *is shot*

But seriously. The only really obscure anime I am currently watching is R.O.D. -the TV- which is an all-time favorite of one of my close friends, and he told me to watch it. FELL IN LOVE BY FIRST EPISODE. Not done yet, but I think I'm gonna like this.

Also....Sacred Seven. This needs a little more love.

I don't think people have seen Kunchu Buranko. Its anime about psychological disorders. Also skip episode 2. I don't think you wanna watch that. Its also based on a book of the same name.

I bet alot of these people have not seen this blog already:

Tommorrow with my friends we are seeing Oh Edo rocket.

Ive seen Kaiba also, Time of Eve and Spring and Chaos.

I wonder if you guys seen Go panda panda.

And its a bit of a strech to say no one has seen Mushishi. Its gain some popularity. But I like the calm tone of this anime. Its pretty relaxing anime.

There also a specifics block in japan that shows all these unique anime call noitamina (animation spelled backwards). I bet not everyone has seen these shows, because most of these are obscured animes.

We jas a 'Let's Watch' for Kaiba a while ago. It's a great anime! ^.^

Mushishi is also unbearably popular, but you're right about how relaxing it is.

Noitamin A is rather my favorite block. Their shows tend to be pretty quality.

I did a search before hand to make sure I didn't repeat anything. I forgot to say that this forum already said Kaiba.

Ive see only like 1-2 fanarts, but its an award winning anime.

I haven't watch the block specifically, but someone told me about it.

I wonder, am I the only one of two people (The only other person is Agloval I believe) here who have seen the 2007 Series of Terra e...?

It has a very fast and consistent plot without plot holes, awesome atmosphere and soundtrack to create unique emotions, very good pace between dialogues and action, high suspense, nice character development, no villains or heroes, both sides have their motives explained thoroughly and have equal "air time", very strong family, earth-nostalgia and love, relationship, emotions, and a decent ending to boot.

What's not to like?

I own it on DVD and I have seen it a couple of times already.

Other anime I have seen that I don't seen mentioned here:

Zegapain

Ask yourself this: Do you love suffering in works of fiction? Do you like works of fiction that put their endearing characters through unimaginatively hellish trials. Do you like it because it's all the more satisfying for you when these characters persist and break through the emotional and physical obstacles
that torment them?

If so, Zegapain is worth a watch.

Brigadoon Marin to Melan

It has lots of happiness, sunshine, rainbows, child abuse, angst, and genocide. I would say that it fits in the same group of anime and manga along with Bokurano and Now And Then, Here and There...you know...stuff that aren't over the top, and are legitimately depressing in terms of what the characters suffer through.

The Actions in Brigadoon actually have consequences. People get hurt, and can even die. Tragedy can strike without warning. And when things can’t seem to get any worse, they do.

But the characters change and grow from these sometimes harsh experiences. Through them you get to see the inner strength of Marin, and the developing bond between her and Melan as he comes to understand his charge.

Brigadoon is both a fast and a slow show. Events can happen quickly, and situations can change in an instant. However the development of the characters slowly takes place throughout all the episodes. Watching the last episode and looking back, it is amazing just how much Marin and Melan have changed.

Brigadoon was happy and heart-warming at times, and funny at others. But it was also desperate and brutal in some instances, and sad enough to make me cry several times. It makes you feel for Marin, cheering her on through adversity because the outcome seems never certain. You want her to have a happy end, because she of all people deserves one.

Shigurui: Death Frenzy

Thought Berserk was over-the-top violent? Seriously??

It actually has a great story underneath the gory visuals. Too bad that the story is incomplete. Still one of the better samurai series out there.

The anime ends at volume 7 of the manga...the manga is very good by the way.

Soul Taker

It is a great action show filled with metaphysical aspects. Much better than it looks first, you just have to get behind the strange way its story is delivered

Gilgamesh

The art is kinda hard to dig at first: dark and grey, but you get used to it. The multiple twists of the story could get you confused but it's also the most charming element of this story. Also, I believe that Gilgamesh gets too much hate for being different from most anime out there. I don't know about your tastes in anime, but if you're looking for a mature, intelligent anime in the same vein as Texhnolyze, Wolf's Rain, Ergo Proxy that also has has a heavy atmosphere [it is persistently dark and gritty and it never lets up with little or no happiness anywhere] with a well timed plot that leads to a satisfying conclusion then Gilgamesh is a good and underrated choice.

Ai Monogatari: 9 Love Stories

You wouldnt think it, but Rugby's actually a pretty big deal in Japan, yet you'd be hard pressed to find any hint of it in anime. This one wins the award for that alone - throw in some good old drama and we got ourselves a good anime.
Not all of the stories are great, but just because of that you shouldn't hold back from trying this one. It's has some really nice romance stories.

Wasurenagumo

A great little movie with fire-breathing spiders. Very little to complain about regarding the animation, storyline, or characters, plus a very unexpected conclusion.

Green Legend Ran

It is a very short OVA from 1992 - 1993 that is very similar to Now and Then

Well, until cyberpunkotaku joined this site, I was the only one here who saw this little and extremely obscure OVA called "Malice@Doll" It was made by Chiaki Konaka...you know: The same guy who made Lain, Ghost Hound, Big O and Texhnolyze and will return to make Despera someday...hopefully.

Good anime but it was really overlooked at the time it launched because it came out around the same time when Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children was launched. Also, the CGI is kind of bad for the eye (The producers didn’t have the equipment to do fluid movement animations. Of course, they solved this with a “story” solution - they made the movie about android dolls, who are kinda supposed to be jerky in their movements.) but it's artsy and well made. It’s a horror story that "deconstructs" the Pinocchio story (AKA: I want to be a real Human). There’s some good character development as Malice realizes what she did and corrects her mistakes. It’s interesting that the robots didn’t try to build a new society when they’re not doing their established duties. It’s obvious that they’re sentient by the way they act. And the ending is a big "WTF am I watching?"

Malice@Doll is a very interesting movie and traces some rather interesting notions. For instance, It challenges the notion that a doll that is made in man’s image, if given the chance, would choose to become a living organism that looked human - maybe they would choose something completely and utterly different. Simultaneasly, this anime also asks if you would be how you really see yourself, what would you really look like? It takes the old cliche of machines versus human flesh and turns it around. Here it is the flesh that corrupts the machine, cold logic is swallowed by human emotions and the machines succumb to the frailty of Human Nature.

Speaking of Pinocchio, I wonder if I am the only one here who has seen "Key the Metal Idol"? It was the first real Dementia anime and it was made from 1994 . It is somewhat of a blend of Pinocchio, Ghost in the Shell and Full Moon o Sagashite.

Neane, stay away from this thread :P You are the definition of above-competition in this area.

Anyway, here's one that I'm pretty sure no one in this forum has watched (much, very much for their loss): Seton Doubutsuki Risu no Banner, or, Bannertail: The Story of the Gray Squirrel. A little gem from the late 70s when famous (or not so famous, as it's this case) pieces of classical western literature were made into anime and back when having non-anthropomorphised animal protagonists was still a cool thing to do.

It tells the story of Banner, a baby gray squirrel that is captured by a farmer when spying the crops and is given as a live morsel to the farmer's cat. The cat, however is moved to adopt Banner as her own and Banner grows up behaving like a cat. When a fire destroys the farm and the farmer decides to move to the city, the cat understands that Banner is now old enough to return to and live in the woods as a squirrel and regretfully leaves him behind. Shortly after, he's taken in by a group of wild squirrels who are initially distrustful of him but eventually learn to respect and love him.

Although it's a tale told with the 70s kind of japanese cartoon style animals (think bright colours, button noses, buck teeth and pink solid circles in their cheeks) it presents several complex issues and lots of touching dramatic moments interwoven along the cheery business of teaching a squirrel to act like a squirrel. Banner mixes an absolute and endearing innocence about life and perils as a small rodent in the wild, with disregard for said perils because he was raised as a predator (meaning that he's more courageous and resourceful than your typical lower-end-of-the-food-chain mammal,) a bright attitude, and an inexhaustible willingness to be useful to others.

In several ways -although I cannot guarantee this was the creators' purpose- it reflects perfectly life as immigrant in a new country. At the beginning he has to adapt to his new, harsh circumstances, very different from the comforts he enjoyed at home while initially being shunned by different characters out of prejudice, misunderstanding or egoism. His strange quirks and his ignorance about the local "customs" and "rules" are constantly thrown on his face until the inevitable moment when Banner does them an invaluable service -often, of the life-or-death kind. Eventually, when tragedy strikes all of them know where to go for help. And be warned, even with the cartoonish characters, funny voices, running gags and little happy adventures catching acorns and the so, tragedy strikes with an alarming frequency. (Alarming for a kid's show, 'accurate' for a depiction of life in the wild.) This is anime, after all, and you can expect secondary characters to drop like flies. There's a full episode of Banner helping a mother cope with the loss of her only child. There's your expected man-made debacle. (Don't watch this if you still haven't forgiven us about Bambi's mother.)

I'm not sure myself how possible if at all is to find this series anymore. (I watched in TV long time ago and it was forever etched in my mind. Every minute of it.) If you ever, somehow, come across it, please do yourself and the rest of the world a solid and watch it. This is humanity-improving stuff, right here.

^ sounds very nice
Are you talking about this?: http://www.nippon-animation.co.jp/work/seton_risuno_banner.html
Seems to be a few different spellings of the thing.
e.g. シートン動物記りすのバナー (Shitton Doubutsuki Risu no Banner)
though in English I see
"Seton Doubutsuki Risu no Banner"
and
"Seaton Doubutsuki Risu no Banner"

I did look up the Japanese name and found a list of streaming episodes. But we can't watch them due to licensing restrictions.

It's all about a kitten who is trying to find a home, and most of the movie revolves around her trying to fit into the family, dealing with the drama of being in love with her owner (explained more later), and dealing with the reality of being a cat.

You see, all the cats see themselves as humans, more or less, with ears and clothes that represent what they look like as a cat. Since the kitten sees herself as a small almost-human, she thinks that she'll one day become human... and is devestated when she realizes she won't.

Seriously a wonderful film.

Gilgamesh is probably the most obscure anime I've watched, and I see someone already mentioned it. =P That is seriously a good show, it caught my eye because its art style looks like the Persona games (the early ones, not 3 and 4) and it ended up having a Persona feel in pretty much everything.

Also, Bomberman Jetter--anyone seen that? It is surprisingly great, moving, and sad. Who knew a cutesy looking anime based on Bomberman of all things could have such heart?
