Hourou Musuko is a mature and complex series that explores a mature theme and has a very special graphic design with a realistic romance.

Redline on the other hand is an amazing tale of romance that is coated over with extreme heart-pumping action.

This is very difficult.

I'm going to vote for:

While I liked Hourou Musuko, and it's art style, Redline is my kind of movie more. In addition, while Hourou Musuko did have a unique art style... it didn't add to the story and occasionally felt somewhat against the tone of the show to have this constant fluffy soft focus watercolor appearance. The art in redline did nothing but add to the story, and interacted directly with the action, shifting to match the tone of the scene quite well.

Gonna go with REDLINE, it's just straight up fun to watch.
Blessed be the LORD my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:
My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.

Redline was fun, but this gave me thoughts to chew on and has stayed on my mind for a few days after- far more my type of move than Redline. I also adored the art.

<REDLINE>

While we could argue all day about whether Redline is one of the greatest anime movies of all time, I think that most of us can agree it did do everything right.
Everything in its art, animation, story, music, etc. made the movie better. Nothing was "blah" in this movie, it all was taken to the highest they could take it. Even from the beginning, when you see the crowd all waiting in anticipation just to see (or hardly see) the racers pass them and then this music starts and it's full speed forward from there.

Hourou Musuko was my favorite anime of the entire year. So yes, GO beat that stylish monster of a movie!

Its a great movie, about racing through a war zone in space.
Great animation, character design, and music.
The only problem I have with it is the random bit of nudity in the middle.

I've been following the Hourou Musuko manga for a while and the anime adaptation was perfect for the part that it covered. Redline is a pretty good movie, but pretty much everything about it screams THIS ISN'T FOR YOU at me.

I look forward to Chihayafuru every single week. It always manages to make me feel warm and to smile from the inside out. Truly a wonderful experience so far, I'd recommend this show to anyone who is not averse to feeling good.

There's no way I can vote against this, never before and since has a show made me rage against characters so hard yet still feel compelled to watch to see if things will finally go right. And boy did it pay off.

Chihayafuru is awesome and keeps me coming back and can warm a heart that has been destroyed by recently reading Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.

We will meet each other again as we pursue our dreams.

I pick Chihayafuru simply because it proved me wrong. I started watching it thinking it would be another anime about a game (like Yu-gi-oh, lol). Sort of fun-ish, but mainly boring, end of story.
But no, it knocked me off my feet, then picked me back up again and served me tea. The least I could do is give it the attention it deserves.

I feel like I should watch Kimi ni Todoke before making a call between these two, since I've heard good things about KnT, and especially now that I know they're both about socially awkward girls. (Not that I'd, you know, relate to that or anything.) So I'll pass.

I mostly checked out Chihayafuru initially due to the novelty of the premise. But it's turned out quite well-done, and the female lead is a really fun character. It also surprisingly manages to make engaging a game I'm sure I would find really boring in real life...

This is just mean. :<
I thoroughly enjoyed both series, it's next to impossible to choose a favorite.

Nichijou is a series we should have had a long time ago. It's a comedy. But not a stupid repetative comedy with only three good jokes and the rest is just trying too hard. Nichijou never stops coming up with new ideas and parodies to use. While it doesn't have a very deep story (this depends on who you talk to though, that ending was pretty touching), it does tell tons of great stories. Its best quality is that it makes the most of its medium, with the animation, the music and sound effects, and the voice acting.

Usagi Drop is definitely one of the most beautiful stories told, and its art style matched its feel perfectly.

But, I must go with the groundbreaker.

Goldy, Usagi Drop is also groundbreaking - a series about a girl and her adoptive dad that's genuinely about their growth as people developed through their familial love. Not exactly usual fare for an anime.

So despite enjoying Nichijou, I'll go with this groundbreaker:
