These are both family friendly and good, IMHO. I'll also give stars at the end.
A Little Snow Fairy Sugar - This is a sweet anime with a great story. It has lulling, beautiful piano music as the score and a cute, and catchy theme song. The dance at the end of the show is great to try with your younger siblings.
The characters are fully developed and have issues that are never over the top for a seven-year-old.
It's rated 3 and up. I've heard it's too sugary sweet for the teen set; but, my daughter and I really enjoyed the message of love and friendship, and it's beautiful art together. ***** My #1 pick.
Hamtaro - This is a must see for anyone who loves cute little creatures. These hamsters share love and friendship on daring adventures and within their relationships with their owners. The owners, Hamtaro's is Lara, have their own stories going, as well - and they grow and have fun together, too. It's
rated All Ages. ***** My #2 pick.
My Neighbor Totoro - I first saw this movie by Miyazaki when the kids were very little. The only problem you might find with it is the Japanese belief in spirits which exist in all of nature; there are sprites in the family's home. Totoro, I think, is the spirit of the large tree that is on their property. It, however, has nothing scary or ghost-like, and instead is a sweet story of how two girls overcome their mother's hospitalization. They are seperated from their mom for the first time and find comfort in the large Totoro, who whimsically takes them away, seeing things they had never seen before - all before bedtime.
It's had wonderful reviews and is hailed as one of Miyazaki's best classic family films.
It's rated G. *****
Pokemon - I've always enjoyed Pokemon and 4Kids actually cleaned it up to a
G rating. The movies are all fun and clean, from what I remember.
They are rated G. Each has the cutest shorts before the full-length feature. These shorts are always how Pikachu and friends work together to accomplish some task, and become closer for it. I think they're enjoyable and I've never seen anything objectionable in them. ****
Hello Kitty - Oooo, this is a definite kiddy fare. They even teach counting, safety, manners, and much more on each disc. Easily they could place this on Nick Jr. and have no problem. It's just so cute.
The stories are the usual working together to complete a task and have a fun make-believe adventure while you're at it. It's Kitty, her twin sister, Mimmy, and friends. Your seven-year-old might even find this too young for he/she, but it's definitely cute, and I enjoy watching it. ****
Mao Chan - This has an over-the-top cuteness factor. Three 2nd-graders are called upon to defend the earth. They have these little clover-leaf lapel pins, that when they push them in, they change into their fighting uniforms. It's very cute and much more enjoyable in Japanese with subtitles. The music is nice and it's extremely clean.
It's rated All Ages. I found the aliens these girls fight, the most comical part. The aliens come down in UFO catchers.
These aliens are soooo cute, you hate to see them destroyed, which is why the government has implemented 2nd-graders to take them down. I really like this one.
*****
Well, I hope these helped some. I would have added Cardcaptor Sakura and the Adventures of the Mini-Goddesses, but those are rated 13 and up. I'm not sure why.
So, I'll skip those.
