Wolf's Rain

Postby Kirika » Thu Jul 03, 2003 7:11 pm

BONES latest work, I had heard of this serie several times through the net and it looked interesting, so I did some digging up and there's what I found:

"Wolf's Rain takes place in a future that has many parts of the world that are either dead or decaying. Life is a precious thing and there is no safe place to live. Cities aren't a common thing to come by and are protected by domes. It is said that before the world ends, the wolves will lead everyone to "Paradise". Very few people believe this because wolves are supposed to have been extinct for 200 years now.

The wolves have the ability to project their image as a human. This image is what humans see if the wolves don't want to show their true form. Only Quent Yaiden isn't fooled by this, and makes it his goal to kill all the remaining wolves.

The Flower Maiden has begun to call the wolves and draw their attention. Kiba arrives at a dying city to find other wolves with similar goals. However, they aren't the only one who's interested in the Maiden, scientist Cher Degre and her ex-husband, Hubb Lebowski, have become incresingly persistent. More obstacles start to arise as Kiba and the others get closer to the Flower Maiden and Paradise."
And Yoko Kanno is making the music

What I've seen of it's pretty good (I think ~6-8 episodes). It does take a while to get going though, and yeah the music's great.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I have no idea. A lot of the stuff our club shows are anime that haven't been licensed for North America yet. As a result we generally end up seeing the shows well before they're readily available to the general public.

Downloading complete fansubs of an anime series is a form of stealing. Just so you know.

Anime News Network did several articles on the "ethics" and "legalities" of fansubbing and came to the conclusion that fansubbing is at best a gray area of the law and at worst (when done of already-released titles) outright theft.

Hey, whatever happened to "thou shalt not steal" anyway?

No stealing involved (at least for us), and they aren't usually fansubs. We're an official university club, so we have to make sure everything's above board. Plus our club president is very down on piracy (and works for one of the distributors anyways).

actaully in the state of the law the actaul fansubbing is not illegal its giving out the episodes twith the fansubs that illegal and its only illegal if you dowload it in the united states. the fansubbing community is hightly respected by the anime dvd realesers and have a very strict code of morals. They are very strong force and i support them with everything i have.
thats the way i see it

Absolutely great series.....

Definately my current favorite.

............

as far as fansubbing being stealing.....heh.....thats how the anime companys push the market here in the states. they wouldn't have an overseas market if it wasn't for people fansubbing and doing AMVs. the downloads are usually low quality and people buy the legit DVDs anyway for the shows/movies they think are worth it....

thus the anime companies see it as necessary and encourage it. we get fresh anime.....they make mad cash......everyone is happy.

It's been a week since I'm at my father's house and since he has high speed internet I downloaded it. I don't care if it's illegal or not, I simply coudn't wait.
IT'S ONE OF THE BEST ANIME I'VE EVER SEEN!!! It's now my favorite. I'm definitly buying the DVDs when they come out. I totally fell in love with this anime. The animation, the story, the music (just bought the soundtrack) is awsome! I just love Hige
But just one thing: does a wolf really heal that fast? I mean, Kiba gets shot in the shoulder then the episode after it's like it never happened... anyway I forgive him
And in the soundtrack there's a french song :jump: !! it has some mistakes in the lyrics :eyebrow: but it's still good. The ending theme is really good too, perharps the best song of the CD
I just finished watching episode 21, but the other ones aren't out yet :sniffle: I just hope they do before I go back home.

I've only read a review of it in Newtype, but it looks really good ^^
I've been having these weird thoughts lately, like, is any of this for real, or not?

After EP 22, it got liscensed by Bandai :(

there's 30 Episodes in all.......so basically the project got dropped by the major fansub groups to avoid legal issues. Its such a popular series though that im sure a few underground fansub groups are working on it still. I managed to find EP 23 and 24 recently, but i haven't found any others yet.......

the worst part is that Bandai is probably goint to sit on it for awhile......so we won't see the DVDs coming out for a long time. i know that some of the guys from Live-Evil have been trying to get permission from Bandai to finish the series, but Bandai Execs keep blowing them off......

i just wanna see what happends at the end man......and i don't want to have to wait 2 years to do it..... :bang:

i know....i feel your pain. :sniffle:

if it helps .....i just found an unsubbed version of EP 25 on Kazaa...

(one more reason i need to learn Japanese)

i'm sure some underground subbers will take care of it though. Wolf's Rain is too popular for them to leave us all hanging like that.

if all else fails, do a google search for it and i'm sure you'll stumble across some info......(keyword: Woofnick)

I'm not sure...the way the series is going plot-wise, I don't see how they could fit a movie in......with them trying to reach paradise and all that.....they did it with cowboy beebop though so you never know...

i just watched EP 25 btw.......(and i'm queued for 26)......this is undoubtebly the best series i've seen yet.....25 about made me cry....i was just sitting here watching it completely stunned....

wow...i'm definately getting the box set once Bandai gets off its lazy corporate butt and gets it up for sale.....

from what i've dug up on it.....EP 26 was the last episode for the fansubs (thats why the opening theme was different for that Ep.), but it's rumored that there will be another 4 episodes released on the dvds to finish the series off.....or possibly a movie, since they left a lot of the story open and a lot of questions unanswered.

i'm going to keep an eye out for any more info though. :thumb:
