What is the best Gundam or mech series?

Postby Goofy-Luffy » Fri Nov 03, 2006 3:53 pm

Like the title says, I'm looking for the best Gundam or mech series in you've seen.
Thanks :)

Well, while I'm here, should I get Gasaraki, it looks kinda cool.
Thanks again.

My favorite Gundam series are Gundam Wing, Gundam: 8th Team, and Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.

As far as other mecha series, Full Metal Panic! was good, as well as Dual!-Parrallel Trouble. Both these also have strong comic elements lacking in a Gundam series. I haven't seen Garasaki yet, but I've heard mixed opinions.

As for the better storyline Gundam. I have to break them down in the UC and AC storylines.

Best of the UC storyline Gundams.

Gundam 0080

Gundam 08th MS Team

Gundam: Char's Counterattack (movie)

I haven't seen all of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, but its starting to be on the top of the list.

AC storyline Gundams

Gundam Wing Endless Waltz

Gundam Wing

as for storylines, i'd have to say

Gundam Wing & endless waltz

Mobile Suit Gundam (the whole federation vs. zeon war is spiffy)

as for a specific series....hmmm

Gundam Wing & endless waltz

Gundam Seed

Mobile Suit Gundam

I like 0083 stardust memory yet my favorite mecha show it machross its just really cool.

Gundam seed could of been better if they would of had more action and less flash backs( and if they would of killed off the red head earlier then it would of been the best but they didnt so it isnt

Raxephone, eva but its acctually good and not depressing.

Also I liked the 8th ms team and gundam wing. Wasn't to much of a fan of the movie but the mech designs were much better though there was not the intense fights of the show.

Well it depend on what you like everyone have their own opinion on what is the best Mobile Suit Gundam Series either on the UC side or the AU side. Or move beyond that there are lots of mech series then just Raxephone or EVA or FMP. And depend on do you care about the art or not or are you more into the storyline or does the art matter to you. If art does not matter to you I would recommand seeing First Mobile Suit Gundam where the original Mech series started then maybe moving onto Macross The Super Dimension Fortress series then Robotech, Then Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team, Then 0080, 0083, then Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. AU side maybe New Mobile Suit Report Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed. Then if you want funny stuff but still have mech element you chould try FMP and other similar to that.

Evangelion is really excellent. Also, if you want to stick with Gundam, check out Char's Counterattack, 8th MS Team, or 0080.

And for super robot, watch GaoGaiGar FINAL.

Escaflowne, RahXephon, and Magic Knight Rayearth... I'm not a real big mecha fan, but I love those shows^^ Oh and I guess Uta can count too a bit...

I think that Escaflowne, the series at least,is less about the mecha and more about the relationship between Hitomi and Van.

Dual is basically a parody of sorts of Neon Genesis Evangelion and so is less dark.
No-one actually dies and the emphasis is more on the comedy side of things, although the Special that follows episode 13 does feature a bit of nudity
of sorts.

Well, it somewhat is. Its more of a adventure, drama, Fantasy and romance story with mechs in it.

I'm going to throw out a plug for G Gundam. Don't take it too seriously, and you'll be fine. I love it.

I see what you mean about escaflone not being to mecha like but I must say they had some real cool looking mech battles in that series like that one near the end it was just awsome ( although the soundtrack helps alot)

It did, and as much as I'm a big Escaflowne fan. There are so many mech shows out there and I feel that if a person is going to watch Escaflowne just for the mechs, they will not like it.

Gundam Wing and G Gundam are the only ones that have been able to catch my interest thus far... I'm not too big on huge stomping machines...

Saw just a few episodes of some Gundam series and didn't really think too much of it. I typically like the more "bio"-looking kind (like Eva) and such.

Hmmm....I suppose just about any anime mecha related would count wouldn't it?
I haven't seen it yet but have it on my list of anime to get and watch, but wouldn't Sakura Wars also count?

I'll cast my vote for Big O and War In the Pocket. Gundam Wing is fun too, but I haven't seen it in a really long time.
