Samurai Deeper Kyo
Excel Saga
RaXpheon
Get Backers
Full Metal Panic
Vamper Hunter D

Anyone seen uncut versions of these?? Are they any good and do some of them have some suggestive themes?
I really like Samurai/Horror/Space/Sci-Fi type anime.

Excel Saga - EXCELLENT show, full of the most insane humor this side of the galaxy, and basically parodies every genre of anime out there. There's a bit of mild language and sexual innuendo, but nothing bad at all.

Grave of the Fireflies - Beautiful movie that takes place during or after WWII, I believe. Nothing wrong with this at all. Yep. Sad movie. ;_;

Beserk and Ninja Scroll - I haven't watched either of these, but I heard there's a lot of unecessary nudity and violence. >>;

I enjoy the following:

Excel Saga (don't watch the last ep. trust me)
Samurai Deeper Kyo (some language a little fanservice here and there)
Full Metal Panic (some language and a littlefanservice)
Rahxephon (love it! one of the best shows I've seen in awhile)

I have seen Lain, I didn't enjoy it in the slightest. But I know people that love it. Ninja Scroll like the movie...eep. I haven't made it past the first 10 minutes.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

Rahxephon is great. The only real problem is the cursing but it really doesn't get nasty with it though. Remember however that I only have the first DVD. Others can tell you more about it and the others on your list.

I want to get the rest of the DVDs but I'm broke.

Vampire Hunter D-good if you like sci-fi and horror. I have seen Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, but not the first one; so I can't tell anything specific about the content.

Berserk-This is one of my personal favorites, although it is definitely not suitable for younger audiences. It is something of a horror story, although it could be more accurately described as a realistic portrait of medieval battles. It is an action/fantasy/horror. It deals with some intense issues, such as rape, child abuse, torture, death, and ambition. There is some nudity, so if you don't want to see that, don't get this. However, I would not say that it is gratuitous or unnecessary. Some people also say that there is homosexuality in it, but the evidence is lacking for this interpretation of the events in the story. It also has a lot of blood/gore, and demons, so if you don't want to see that sort of thing, don't get this. Still, if none of that bothers you, I would highly recommend it (although I'm only saying that because you're 18). The anime also ends with a huge cliffhanger, because the series is not yet finished; but they do hint at how everything turns out in the end.

Ninja Scroll-Pure garbage. It is violent, sexually explicit, and features a less than accurate portrait of Christianity. Satan also makes an appearance through a rather gruesome process. I can't really think of any redeeming qualities about this one (and I have seen it; I'm not just basing this on the opinions of others).

Those are the only ones that I have seen.

I rememebr seeing some of Ninja Scroll but from what you guys have said, I won't get it..doesn't sound too good. Same with Berserk, that rape/torture/child abuse thing kinda turned me off.

Is it more violent the Samurai X: Trust and Betryal? That's where I draw the line.

The ones I really want to get is Excel Saga, RaXpheon, Get Backers, Full Metal Panic, and Grave of the Fireflies.

What's Serial Experiment Lain bout??

Serial Experiments Lain is about a girl who gets an e-mail message from a classmate of hers that died/commited suicide not long before. I haven't seen it myself, but I think it's something along the lines of that episode of Cowboy Bebop, 'Brain Scratch' where people think they can exist as digital data...

Yeah, Lain is like "Brain Scratch", except in Lain, they do exist as digital data. I saw every episode and it was pretty strange, I wasn't quit sure what was going on. You might like it though, I thought it was ok.

The only one of those I've seen is Vamp Hunter D, (1985 version), the lowdown is that it has quite a bit of fanservice (the main female has quite a short skirt) and you see 2 nude scenes, one didnt bother me too much (shower scene), the other was like 2 seconds were a vamp rips her top open (it was only 2 seconds but it was very unessesary and made me laugh at the stupidity of the scene). Thats the bad bits. The good bits are that it has lots of action and fighting, the characters are pretty cool, its quite a good twist on the traditional vamp story (dark castles and lightning etc), plus theres a talking hand which was very kool. I'd rate it 15+. Only buy it if ur ok with that sorta stuff.

Samurai Deeper Kyo is definitely in the samurai theme, and, if the anime is anything like the manga, is a very interesting story. The manga has some fanservice in it, and there are several characters that are quite lecherous, but I imagine that the anime tones that down a bit.

Vampire Hunter D: I've seen Bloodlust, but that's it. Great movie, no problems with fanservice or suggestive themes. Some blood, but with a vampire flick that should be a given.

Full Metal Panic!: Just started reading the manga. I like it so far. Some fanservice, but it doesn't really distract (at least in volume 1), and again, I'm sure that the anime shows less than the manga.

If I had more money, I would probably check out Excel Saga myself, but c'est la vie.

I can give a few thoughts on these with the one exception of Get Backers.. (which i myself would like to learn more about. :))

Samurai Deeper Kyo --- Demon eyes is no Kenshin. This was ok if you are a big samurai fan like myself, but it is more 'edgy' than kenshin. (fanservice).
Excel Saga --- a crazy anime, love that space butler. its funny, and strange and if you know a lot about Anime, Manga and some video games you will be able to pick up more on the jokes... (i didn't know too much but it was still fun.)
RaXpheon --- RahXephon (if thats what you meant) is a very good mecha / action / drama some would say it has similarities to NGE. yet not as controversial :)
Get Backers --- i would like to know.
Full Metal Panic --- i was intrested in this show myself but only have the first dvd, i did enjoy it and i plan to get the rest someday.
Vamper Hunter D --- the first movie is dated (but i guess you should know your anime "roots") the second movie Bloodlust is better in my opinion.
Berserk --- ok, gore and some questionable characters... prolly not what you are looking for i would bet.
Grave of the Fireflies --- a movie, movie... its deeper and with a message i guess... not really as fun??? but worth seeing for sure.
Serial Experiments Lain --- strange. i got the first two dvds and rented the rest, its strange and even after its over i still find it strange. i would prefer other of the listed animes better.
Ninja Scroll --- (if this is the movie) then i can say it is inappropriate at many times.

Hmmmm lemme see, Excel Saga is good and funny, Get backers I heard was good, Grave of the Fireflies I heard was excellent, Serial Experiments Lain is alright . . . its a weird almost matrix like show . . . anime similar to matirx if you will.
Samurai Deeper Kyo I heard was bad, same with Ninja Scroll, and I saw Vampire Hunter D and it was alright, but there was nudity in it and it was weird . . . didn't like it that much . . . The others dont't know much about. Hope that helps . . .:)

Excel Saga- Good anime, it's realy funny, I'd rate 12+ but the last ep is garbage.

RahXephon-Pretty good so far...Some language and a tiny bit of fanservice.

Vampire Hunter D-Blooodlust is pretty awesome. R for violence but it isn't that bad. I didn't really like the original, it had a bit less violence but it had nudity.

Grave Of The Fireflies- One of the saddest movies I've ever seen..Very good drama movie though.

Lain-Yeah it's matrix like...If you like disturbing mindtwist stuff than this is for you.

Ninja Scroll-Only saw ten minutes of it but it was really bad lot's of nudity and crap...Don't waste money on it

*pops his knuckles*

Samurai Deeper Kyo -- A heavy part of the plot is the fact that Mibu Kyoshiro is possessed by Demon Eyes Kyo, and whenever Kyoshiro gets into a fight Kyo manifests and slaughters his opponents, usually quite graphically. Also contains some nudity (same applies to the manga)

Excel Saga -- What everyone else has said is pretty right on target, I'd like to add the fact that Lord Illpalazzo detests Christians, and even remarks in the manga on how he can't understand how "people would celebrate a holiday based on the birth of a criminal".

RaXpheon -- Haven't seen it, but from what I understand it's got a lot of Ancient Egyptian undertones

Get Backers -- Great series, one of my favorites! The anime is toned down quite a bit from the manga (which I couldn't approve of in a good conscience), with the worst of it being a buxom blonde woman in a seductive red dress. Great characters!

Full Metal Panic -- Another of my favorites, but the last few episodes (along with the opener) features way too many "girl in a test tube" nude shots. However Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu? I can't recommend, because of way too many episodes featuring gratuitous fan service and overdone jokes.

Vampire Hunter D -- Nothing to add here. Nudity, lots of gore. Wouldn't recommend it.

Berserk -- Very bloody. Disturbingly bloody, actually. I'm not into the swords and sorcery bit myself, but I couldn't stomach the violence (and I used to watch Guinea Pig before I was saved...)

Grave of the Fireflies -- Excellent movie, sort of depressing at times though. Some may be turned off by its presentation of spirits after death. That's really about it.

Serial Experiments Lain -- Haven't finished this yet, but the series has been lent to me so I'll offer my take once its finished.

Ninja Scroll -- Huge piece of squat if you ask me. Pointless and gratuitous sex, over the top violence (but not so much as Berserk), and terrible handling of Christians. *shudders* One of the worst non-hentai animes a Christian could watch, in my opinion.

Can someone PM me and explain what happens at the end of Excel Saga? I've been considering getting it. Is the manga or anime better? On the first volume of the manga the girl (Which I'm guessing is Excel, from what I've heard) is somewhat..fanservicey.

Well, if you're going to get Excel Saga (and I can't convince you otherwise) then get the anime over the manga. In the manga, Illpalazzo's rant about detesting Christians is much more in detail. I beleive the dialogue goes something like this:

"Don't you think that motive (celebrating Christmas) is a bit abnormal?"

"...Repeatedly calling out "Merry" something and a criminal's name......"

"I think that these actions (his plans for world domination) are sacred in a sense different from that of religion (again, Christianity).

However, those sacred actions (celebrating Christmas) concern the blasphmeous celebration of the world's largest imposter's birth!"

I mean... do I really need to say anything else? I couldn't even watch the anime after that...

Il Palazzo (excuse me, I'd been spelling it wrong) is the leader of ACROSS, which is a secret idealogical society dedicated to ruling the world (or at least one city) and freeing it from its present corruption. He's one of the three main characters, and he's seen quite often. It's also a hotel chain, but that's off topic.
