How animes tend to have bad endings

isn't it sad whenever you finish an anime series and you're all like, "Oh man. It's over. There's no more. It's finished. Done."
i mean, it feels almost depressing. I hate that feeling.

I do, too. There have only been a few animes that I've completed that had endings that I liked. It's always disappointing to have a bland or otherwise bad ending.

Sadly, I do not watch many anime. lol. I usually instead read manga. That certainly suffers from the problem of lackluster, rushed, or simply obtuse endings. Some are good, yes, but rarely have I seen an ending and really felt satisfied with it.

In what anime I have watched to the end, without giving spoilers:

Azumanga Daioh - I actually thought this ending was quite well done and brought things to the right emotional closure.

Inuyasha - I was not happy with the ending of this series. Not because of what happened but because of what was left unresolved.

Macross - Another good ending, I thought.

Akira - I loved the movie but found the end somewhat unsatisfying. It also seemed rather obtuse and difficult to follow.

Ghost in the Shell (movie) - The ending here was interesting. I found that a certain lack of resolution was present, but it was workable.

Lupin III (First and Second Series) - Lupin tends not to have a whole lot of continuity anyway. Each episode is really a stand-alone plot save for the few which featured a returning villain. The finales for each series followed in this vein, presenting what were essentially just good Lupin episodes.

Very well put. I fell the same way, for the most part. I read much more manga than anime (mainly because anime is so expensive), and I have only seen a few animes that had endings I enjoyed. These were Kanon, Ikki Tousen, and Dual!. The Tenchi animes usually have decent endings, too, but they could be better. But a rushed ending is almost always the worst kind, and always the most disappointing. I loved R.O.D. the TV, but the ending felt very rushed, and it was a little disappointing. Still a good anime all-in-all, but the ending was pretty lackluster.

However series like Inuyasha and Fushigi Yugi continue in the manga long after the anime has ended.
Dual had an interesting ending but it left fans wanting something more,like another season.

In my mind,the stories need to go on. That's what fanfics are for, I guess. For the few endings i have seen, however, it's just not satisfying.

I would agree that there should be a sense that there is something more for the characters in life. But certain aspects are better resolved within the series canon (unless I am mistaking your meaning in saying it should "go on").

The story itself needs to have a sense of completion. Imagine if the Lord of the Rings ended at the border of Mordor. That would not, to my mind, be a satisfying ending. It is good to end in a way that says there is more to be had, but the main focus of what is being told should be dealt with properly.

The other aspect that I think begs for a firm resolution is romances. I for one do not want to spend an entire series waiting for a couple who are making eyes at each other to finally admit their feelings and then have it end without knowing if they ever will.

This is one of the contributing factors to my waning interest in anime/manga. Why spend hundreds of dollars on a series that doesn't even resolve itself in the end? Meh.

I think the reason a lot of anime tend to have bad endings is 'cause well.. it isn't the end. D: A lot of the manga versions of the anime run longer than the anime itself.

But yeh. u_u The Flame of Recca anime ending sucked. xD But they've finally reached the end of the anime ending in the licensed manga~ 8DD
