The southern stereotype in the US matches the kansai stereotype in Japan as well, so I think many directors think it helps frame the character to have an Osakan speak like she's from Alabama.

I didn't mind Osaka's English, after I got used to it. It took several episodes, though.

What did everyone think of the Azumanga Daioh mini-movie? I heard that it was pretty short (3-4 minutes long) but entertaining. Once I get my hands on the last DVD I'll finally get to see it...

Well, if you've seen all 6 DVDs and/or the manga, there's really nothing new in the mini-movie. It might serve well as an intro to the series, although I'd personally prefer just watching the DVDs right off the bat.

Is this anime really appropriate? Here in Australia the first volume is MA15+, the second is G and the third and fourth are PG. I mean that's a lot of variation in the ratings!

MA15+? I don't know what the criteria for that rating is. It seems a little extreme.

Yeah, I can't think of *any* content in the first DVD that would merit that (high-level nudity, violence, sexual content, etc). Yukari needs a filter on her mouth, but it's more a profound lack of tact than being filthy and I don't think it would buy anything higher than a PG.

I'm guessing the first DVD is rated "higher" is because of that one episode where Kimura fawns all over the girls at the pool. That could be understandable if someone couldn't take it as a joke.

My friend purchased vol 1 and we watched it. Quite funny indeed. It's easy to relate to the personalities of many of the characters.... I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

I appreciated the mini-movie - it was like bits of the manga that didn't make it to the main anime series. I can't speak highly enough for this series. I loved every moment of it and I was filled with both joy and sadness while I watched the final episodes.

episode 4 is as worse at it could get. Girls in one-peice bathing suits... and a teacher spying on them. But it's not 100% innuendo, the rest are pretty much clean.

anyway yeah, i haven't seen the mini-movie, I wish i could

It's rate MA15+ for adult themes and by the sounds of it, they were a bit harsh in rating it!

I have just received all the DVDs, and I am in the process of re-watching the episodes. Right now, one scene that stands out in my mind is when:
After Tomo collapses on the track from losing to Sakaki on an impromptu sprint race, she starts yelling out, "Victory!" and "Number Two!!" I cannot help but laugh since it reveals a lot about Tomo's personality.
I've heard a lot about it, and I really want to see it. It sounds quite random, from the many clips I've seen of it around CAA.
So, I hear there's a manga and an anime. Anyone know which one I should get first? ^^

I was wondering that same thing. I think I'll get the manga... Maybe I'll get the anime later on too. :D

I saw the first episode a long time ago, and it was hilarious.
