w00t. The DVD was pretty much the only reason I looked for Newtype on the newsstands at all.

It's about time.Llike Shooraijin I only bought the mag for the preview dvd. I never really read the articles.... :(

Edit:I would argue they are bringing it back solely for more business. When they where giving out the free dvd's more people probably bought it.

The funny thing is. I was at other boards and anime news groups that are mad that the price will be $12.98 now.

When most of them were mad that they took the dvd out and now that it is in, but they had to up the price a bit. Some are not happy about that.

They have told people that if they did bring back the dvd for the mag, that they would have to up the price and that would be plan B for them.

When I first saw the announcement I was pretty sure that they would have to raise the price. Still, it's not the $15.00 price tag they were going to stick on it a few months back before they dropped the DVD insert.

I figured the cost would have to come up anyway, but I'm willing to pay that to preview some series I'm considering purchasing. Alas, I have little use for the magazine itself. The pictures are pretty, but it's not gripping journalism.

I do like the review section. A lot of the reviews are not what you would call great journalism, but I can usually pick out whether or not the series is of interest to me.

The loss of the DVD and the higher price are both ADV trying to get people to subscribe, so they have a better gauge on how many issues to produce each month. It's significantly less expensive to subscribe, if you can swing the cost up front.

True, although I have very specific tastes in series, so a lot of issues I just skip since I know I'm never going to buy the series they're previewing or demonstrating. Ironically, ADV is probably the anime vendor I've bought from *least* (pretty much the only ADV stuff I own is Robotech and Azumanga Daioh ... well, actually, Hoshi no Koe is ADV also, but that's it), so most of their own home-published series tend not to excite me much because of the genre choices they make, and of course they're going to hype their stuff a little more.

On the other hand, even though I buy a lot of Viz stuff, I don't like Viz' publications arm very much. I wonder if AnimEigo would consider an anime magazine -- I've got Oh! My Goddess, Urusei Yatsura, You're Under Arrest!, ...

The only thing that I wish that Newtype would do is, do some stories on old anime from the 60's, 70's and the 80's.

You would think that Bandai hasn't put out a mag yet.

That's a big if for some of us. Even the higher cover price is more cost effective in the here and now.

I really wish that someone who doesn't actually publish anime of their own would make a magazine. Maybe then there would be more in-depth writting and less glorified ads (fluff and pretty pictrues).

Hear, hear. This is one of the reasons the actual Newtype -magazine- has little interest for me.
