Is the magic from fairy tail occult based?

I've seen about 14 ep of fairy tail so far, and I like what I've seen. The thing is, it sounds like it's gonna be become another one of those long term shounen anime like naruto or bleach. I'd just like know if I should or shouldn't watch it while I'm just starting out in it and not too attached to it.

If by occult you mean does it contain references to actual witchcraft? Then no, it's all made up stuff.

^ What Falx said. The magic in the series is just.... there. The people either have the skill for it or not, much like some people either have blonde hair or don't.

In most anime of this nature the majic is just a plot device. There are a few anime that are occult based, but it's generally really easy to tell which ones those are. Anyway, this is just like any other generic fantasy, the magic is just a part of the world.
