'Real Drive' Will Debut in Japan in April
Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell, Blood +) has announced a new anime series, Real Drive (RD Senno Chosashitsu), which is based on a concept from Masamune Shirow, the creator of Ghost in the Shell. The new series will debut in April of 2008 on NTV in Japan. Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Le Chevalier D'Eon) is directing the Real Drive anime and Junichi Fujisaku (director of Blood + and writer of many episodes of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) is scripting the new series. Manga-ka Tetsuro Ueyama (Metal Guardian Faust) is providing the character designs.
Real Drive is a near future science fiction cyber thriller set in a world where a vast network stores individual personal memory data in virtual protected cyber enclaves known as "bubble shells," where individuals can explore their instincts and desires free of real world consequences -- except as the network expands through all levels of society a growing friction develops between the "real" and network worlds, which leads to a number of anomalies and aberrations that must be investigated and controlled by individuals known as cyber divers.
