The Coloring Contest: July Edition!

Hey all ^^

Well, new month = new coloring contest!

The art for this month's contest has been provided by the fantabulous ChristianRonin. As with prior contests, you may use any medium and interpret the image however you want to, just as long as the initial linework is still recognizable. There are also two winning categories for 'Best Technical Submission' and 'Most Creative Submission'. Most importantly, just have fun with it :grin:

This month the deadline is Sunday, July 23rd at midnight.

Awesome lineart, CR! After lurking for a year, I am finally entering my second coloring contest! I have already started working on my entry, but I may end up scrapping it and starting over. There are too many possibilities!

Did you say... CrAzY? Mfff, mwahahaha, hihehe!!! Yup, I'm feelin' alittle CrAzY, therefore your artwork gets the dubious honor of being my first (and probably last) toothpaste-only entry! Sure I utilized toothpaste once before, but not like this. Mwhehehee!!

I did not use any paint. This image was colored entirely with pigments mixed into Crest mint-flavored gumcare toothpaste. I really had to scavange for suitable pigments too...

Pigments:
Green: food coloring
Brownish yellow: ground tumeric (but I think iodine woulda been better)
Black/grey: India Ink
Flesh: Liquid makeup
Pink: Pepto Bismal
Purple: Gentian Violet (foot medicine)

My thoughts on toothpaste: Well, the sheer stickness on it prevented bleeding on regular old copy paper and it made the room smell nice, but uh, anyone who sees you doing it will defintely think you are crazy! I can't say I would recomend this medium to anyone except maybe, Scribs... :lol:

Wow, that actually came out really well! But then, I wouldn't expect any less from you. It's fun to see someone actually use toothpaste as a medium! I am using the computer now that I have discovered the wonderfulness that is GIMP. It will only be my second ever computer-done coloring job, and my other was my first entry last year when Mave submitted the dolphin drawing. *glomps colo[u]ring buddies who have stuck around*

Wow...toothpaste art...and it still pwns...*gaspers*

That's real hurtful when I can't even get half as good of an effect just using plain old colored pencils.

Anywho, I think I'll go for it this month. =^.^=

Well, I've kinda ended up on judging duty since Scribs allowed me to take over. I still try to colour the art and submit an entry, but I automatically disqualify myself since judging myself seems very..odd O_o

Oo! I probably could get your opinion this month, unless you wish to enter. Didn't you mention that you already coloured the art at some point in the past though?

*so curious, but attempting to resist the urge to peek 'coz she doesn't want to effect the entry she hasn't even started yet* ^^;

Oh noes... a doube post... but it would be wierd to "edit" this into my last post so yah.. a double post is what you get... sorry

I finished mine! yes... it was fun! really simple but still fun! It was very inspired by the madeline l'engle books... which I love dearly... CR's art made me think of them so here is her character opening a tessaract muhahahaha.. Im really hyper today.. XD oh well I hope oyu all enjoi!

You've got a good memory, coloring buddy! ;)

Cool entries guys, Vernhal, I like the simlicity, the lines are very clean. And those lens flares... you did something extra to get those colored tri-rings...*ponders the method*

Nice, CR! Was that done in Painter Classic? I especially like the shadows on the legs and the crosshatch shading on the boots is very unique.

yep the background is a completely black layer which i then added three lens flares I then used the solarize filter and then added two more lens flares!

i colored it in Corel painter 8.. .and then cheated with the backround. >.>;;

i used like... those print things that you can get with the program. but at least it looks cool. :]
