Message Board Clubs / Group Memberships

Postby Staci » Sat Apr 10, 2004 1:33 pm

I noticed in Member's Profiles the option for Clubs / Group Memberships through the boards. Has this ability not been implimented fully? Is it something the Admins/Mods do not want to deal with?

My apologies if this topic has been previously posted - I searched but could not find anything. Either that or I'm TOTALLY blind. ^^;;

The reason I bring this up is because I have seen numours "group" threads. Mayhap CAA Members would like official group listings brought in, especially since the board upgrade.

Just an idea! Keep up the good work everyone - CAA is really fleshing out nicely. :thumb:

As I understand it Straylight uses the groups feature to seperate the mods/admins from the members for the boards. I think the admins/mods are user group 1 and the rest are 2 or something like that.

We have definately been considering setting up some kind of "guild" system where members can join specific groups according to their interests. It's been a while since anyone talked about it though... :)

Yeah, but then you enter a whole world of rival guilds, corrupt guilds, groups that are against CAA, and a whole catalouge of nasty problems. Believe me, I was on a board and created a group not so long ago...well, somthing went wrong, and the whole board crashed down on my head.....*Sigh*...Just remember, it may not be as fun without the board groups, but at least no one is yelling at you.

We talked about that - each guild will be headed by a mod and only an admin can approve a new guild (so you don't get a bunch of crap). That should keep things in order...:D

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. That sounds like it would be fun, just as long as there was a Trigun guild. :lol:

I thoroughly agree with inkhana - the Mods and Admins at the CAA are some of the most level-headed around. Furthermore, their inner communications are top-notch. It would not be a "Guild War" sort of environment if implimented here, guarenteed.

As long as we don't create a "Kenshin and Kaoru" guild along with a "Parn and Deedlit" guild, I think things will be fine.

LOL!

Nah, we should definitely keep it to things like "Bishie Fan Guild"..."Mangaka Guild"... stuff like that. I think it would be a lot of fun! :D

What I want to say is spam in this forum, so I'll leave it at A.P.P.L.E.P.I.E.

I've never been a member of a forum with user groups before. Would it just be like we have now, with the Sakura and CLAMP, Bishie, Bishoujo, etc., clubs only officially recognized?

In terms of technical features and added options, what is a "group" for a user on the forums? Is it a separate forum section only shown to members of that "group"? I am having a hard time understanding what is a "group" as defined by the forum software and how it is implemented....

A big benefit I can see (despite my lack of understanding on the technical definition of a "group") is keeping track of fellow members. Right now, in the Bishoujo Pic Thread, I just recommended that a member is someone who keeps that thread alive appropriately on a consistent basis. With a "group," it is just easier to keep track of members... I suppose.

I guess the point of my post is... what is a "group" exactly? I cannot give any more slightly useful or insightful comments until I see a clear specific definition of this feature.
