Hey. . .am I allowed to have a Gundam Wing avatar here?

As you can see, my current avatar is one of Heero. Is that allowed, or will I get in trouble since I knowingly agree with the different interpretation of that anime? :)

No. Though I would have suggested asking this via pm, rather than bringing up the issue again.

The avatar rule is the same as the "appropriate pics" rule. I.E. >
known hentai/yaoi series- ones that have very, very blatant and openly homosexual themes (example: Utena) are not allowed.
theoretical yaoi series- ones that have no said themes in the actual show, just a lot of fan-supported theories (example: Gundam Wing) are ok.

The difference? One has a theme and a message the creators of the show wanted to give out. One has no said message, just a bunch of vague instances blown into pro-yaoi messages by fans. In the first instance, there is no real substantial way to interpret it any differently; in the second, there are many interpretations.

Actually, unless its an outright yaoi pic (someone had that in their sig pic once) chances are it's ok.

And inkjet, it depends on the type of fans you talk to. Some want Heero and Duo/Trowa and Quatre to be "more than friends". *rolls eyes* It's not found anywhere in the real show, so don't worry.

Shounen ai is NOT hentai. Just so you know. :)

I don't want to be banned for this, but that is a *serious* mistake. NOT all shounen ai/yaoi is pornographic or meant for sexual purposes (which defines "hentai") hence, this needs to be corrected as a statement. :)

Definitions of terms, as I have read them:

Hentai = blatantly sexual, as in hardcore pornography. Hetorosexual or homosexual.

Yaoi = homosexual, usually used to denote hard stuff (in fanfiction summaries, as warning to people who do not like it not to read), but I've also heard that the actual, proper use of this term denotes even non-hard stuff, the stuff typically known as "shonen-ai", if it is not cannon but done by fans. It is an iffy term. (IE.. what is usually called "shounen-ai" by fanfiction writers is in the actual Japanese sense of the term Yaoi because it is fanbased rather than cannon-based).

Shonen-ai = homosexual, but not hard stuff... more like hintings at a relationship, maybe stuff like kissing and holding hands, ie romance as opposed to outright porn. I have also heard this term used for cannon pairings while yaoi would be used for this non-hardcore type of pairing if it is done by fans. Usually, in terms used by fanfiction writers, this stuff is NOT hentai or "yaoi"... ie, NON hard-core, but more like "innocent romance" where you dont' see people go to bed.

Yuri = see yaoi, but with lesbian themes.

Shojo-ai = see shonen-ai, but with femalexfemale romance.

I DO NOT SUPPORT ANY OF THIS STUFF. I am merely definining terms as I have read them around the internet.

Again, Noir, just for you all to understand, is not lesbian. It is about friends who happen to be two girls. And, that would mean my name is a big mistake, and I don't want to change my name, since my name is that of a character that is, let's say... very mixed up psychologically and sexually. You would really have to watch the entire series to figure this out. You can go to comments I've made regarding this series in that thread in the anime section. I think I explained it very well over there.

Now, millyfan, I don't really understand your question. I think you're fine. Shonen ai is not something I would agree with, but I know lots of people who could care less about it. We can all just try to be less controversial.

I sound terse, don't I? I was just over at CF and was reading some pretty far out things and I think it made me feel really terse. Sorry, if I'm sounding so bothered and upset, folks.

Ashley, I like your new avatar.:thumb: Millyfan, your sig looks fine to me. Is there something different I didn't notice?:forehead:

Oh yeah, this is my 1,000th post. Yee haw!

I can't believe I have to explain this, but...
For the sake of setting you straight, Milly, neither shounen ai NOR hentai is allowed.Hence the slash. I was not saying they are the same thing. Considering I was the one that wrote the terms dictionary here, I think it's safe to say I understand the difference. Both are inacceptable here, and that's what counts.

It wasn't my sig-those are HETERO pairings I like in my sig.

I had an avatar of Heero Yuy, which, on the advice of UC Pseudonym, I changed.

And I have a feeling my Open Your Mind, Open Your Heart av isn't welcome here, ;)

If it was Heero by himself, it's ok to have. If it's a doujinshi image of Heero kissing Duo or something, forget it. And that goes for sigs too.

My word Milly...next time you want to start a debate take it elsewhere. You could have so easily asked this via PM as UC said...but no, you wanted to start a nice debate. You know how the site feels, the staff knows how you feel. For the love of all that is good and right can't you just let it die?

I think, Milly, I would have to agree with Shatterheart on this. Please, just let it die. Okay?

Couldnt you just use a regular Heero avatar, its not like it wouldnt be the same if it wasnt as suggestive.

Yeah. . .agreed. :) I could use a normal Heero or Duo avatar with the single character like I do over at CF. ^^

Allow this thread to stand as a testimony to ambiguity. I failed to realize my initial response could have been interpreted in more than one way.

What its intent was: Yes, you can have your completely innocent Heero avatar. However, I also suggested that you not bring up the shonen-ai subject on the boards, and I also suggested this thread would have been better off as a pm.

You know, though, I groaned aloud when I saw this thread had 23 posts in it. It actually wasn't bad. Thanks, guys.

No, that's LIE-SOL. It's a lie solvant. You know, wolves in sheeps clothing and all?

As for UC Pseudonym: I feel your pain. If I see a thread or post related to shounen ai or yaoi, I do the same exact thing-albeit for different reasons. Usually, with me, it's because I can just see the flamewar and trollfest beginning. . .or because there's so much mindless misinformation and venom being tossed around by BOTH sides that it's not even worthy of my time. >.<

This thread is actually very civil. :) For that I applaud everyone. :)

Wolves in sheeps clothing, oldphilosopher? Do you have a problem with that or something?

Meanwhile yes, I'm glad nothing very bad came out of this. It runs the risk of becoming an aimless goof off thread.

What about sheep in wolves clothing? I always prefered that one...
