CAA Chat Version 1.0 - It works now!!!

Right. It looks like it's all working now.

Please let me know if you have issues still.

I've got most of the punctuation stuff resolved, and the spacing issue is fixed now.

edit: Just a quick note. Statistically, if you login and no one is there, then wait 1 minute to see if anyone shows up, then leave, you're not likely to meet anyone. If you leave the chat open while you are using CAA (maybe have the "blip on") you are almost guarenteed to see someone.

OK. It looks like you don't have the latest java installed on your machine.

*searches*

OK. Go here and get the latest JRE:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

Click on:
Download JRE (Not JDK!!!!)

Click "Accept" and "Continue" then choose on your platform (Probably the first one - Windows).

Let me know if that doesn't work, OK?

For some reason you aren't able to load that applet. That's odd. Have you tried it from a different browser?

what browser ya running? is the chat compatiable with all browsers?

Yeah. OK. I don't like java much now. I was able to write a valid chat from scratch - but it doesn't work on Firefox. Grrrrrr. I've decided NOT to upgrade this system afterall. Everything is tied to the CAA box on the other side of the pond anyway, and I'm getting some weird access timeouts over here. I'm not sure what's going on, but I can't trouble shoot without root. (Hey, it rhymes!)

Tell you all what... Let me know what OS/Browser you all have, and whether you can get the chat to work, ok? Maybe then we can put together something that will at least be halfway acceptable to the people around here. Maybe someday I'll even get around to modifying the applet, too.

I've tested this system on:
IE on Windows XP.
Safari 1.something on Mac OS 10.2
Safari 1.2.4 on Mac OS 10.3
Firefox 1.0 on Mac OS 10.2 & 10.3 (Weird display bug, must click on bottom line)

Also works on:
Firefox 1.0 on Windows XP

Well, it works from one of my school's terminals, which is fairly impressive given that these machines are fairly obnoxious. They run IE 6 on XP.

Oh.. It won't let you install it? Let me see if I can find a site besides the official one that has it up for download...

Edit: Got it... Manual download, yo. XD;; I'll host it for a couple days. ^^ Here you go:

[Download Java]

GRRRRRRRR!! it says: This acount does not have sufficient privileges to install Java(TM). Please login to an account with administrative permissions.

That's Windows talking... You don't have administrative access on your computer.. Who has the main account on your compy? You need to get them to log-in to their account, and then install Java... or, give you administrative access. It should work on all of your accounts, then. ^^

well i'm using my laptop and i have my account and a guest account. my internet access quit working on my original account so i've been using the guest one. how would i give myself access on my guest account. oh and nobody touches my laptop! nobody! @_@

Oh.. well.. er.. okay, download that file, put it into the "Shared Folder" and then log-in to your normal, non-guest account. Then, go check your Shared Folder, and install it.

Guest accounts can't have administrative access. You might want to try making an entirely new account, though.. if you really want to.. Go to Control Panel --> User Accounts --> Create A New Account. Follow the steps from there. ^^

Yesh, my laptop... :3 I let people use it whenever they need to, but that rarely happens since my parents have their own laptops, and my brother is more focused on video game consoles.. XD;;; A lot of people use the PC in my room, though.. the other PC's that they were supposed to use, have been violated with spyware and adware that I have to periodically clean out for them... >.> Then, they come use my computer and corrupt my dear compy, too... >.< At least the laptop is safe. ^^

There is a misspelling on the chat login... Just a heads up.

RIght now, I have the chat working on Fedora Core 2 Linux. However, I doubt that many members here use that operating system.

EDIT: In this case, the browser is Mozilla.

Hello Capughe. Welcome to the Nuthouse! I believe there are people on CAA that are younger than you, actually. Are you having trouble with the chat? Is that why you are confounded?

PostPosted: Wed Nov 24, 2004 8:23 am

OK. Update: I've modified the system authenticate without the use of the CAA_ values in front of your name. You are still limited to the 14 character maximum which the programmer of the system put in place, but I'm not going to hack his code. If your account is truncated, I'm sorry.
