Elisabeth Elliot

Elisabeth Elliot is the author of 'Passion and Purity', of which I have heard great things spoken but have not myself read. I've become quite curious however, since finding out a little about who she is.

Just recently I picked up an old paperback about a some missionaries to Ecuador who were martyred. The book is Through Gates of Splendor. The lead missionary was a gentleman called Jim Elliot and his widow helped write the book - Elisabeth Elliot.

They put their relationship on hold whilst Jim went to Ecuador to pursue God's will, believing that he was to first go there unhindered by anew marriage and they were later to marry. Discipline. Commitment.

She was faithful to support her husband and strong to carry on the work with the very people who would kill him.

I recommend Through Gates Of Splendor and I expect Elisabeth's other books will be very good.

Yes, I read that in school. It was a very good book.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' ...you'll be a Man, my son!

All of her books are fantastic. Some are more satisfying to read than others, but I really do recommend Passion & Purity...
