Wow, kinda quiet...
I tried to read Clarke when I was about 11 years old. Started with "2001: A Space Odyssey" (didn't see the movie until I was in high school), but couldn't finish; then tried "Rendezvous with Rama", again to no avail.
It wasn't until I was an adult that I made it through "2001" and "2010". Still haven't done "Rama". I can't say he was a significant impact on my sci fi reading (that would belong more to Bradbury, Niven, and Heinlein), but he certainly shaped others...
