CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

I'm planning to cosplay Ichinomiya Kantarou sometime in the near future, however, I'm having a slightly problem planning the costume.

You see, if I wear his usual white hakamashita kimono and red hakama pants, I'm worried I'll get mistaken for Kikyo from Inuyasha (being an asian girl doesn't help that situation), so I was thinking of going for the fancier outfit he wears at times. The problem is, I have no idea WHAT that outfit is called, and therefore can't find a pattern to help me sew it.

So...I've attached pictures, and if anyone can provide me with the name of the outfit (I've seen other anime characters in it before, so I KNOW it has a name) I'd be eternally grateful.

I'm hunting around to see if I can find out; if not, I'll see if my sensei knows.

For anyone else googling around, I think Fujiwara no Sai from Hikaru no Go wears an outfit of similar design, so you might check that too (I will after I finish with the sites I'm searching now if no one else does.)

EDIT: Okay, Kantaro's collar is a little lower than Sai's, but as far as I've found, the outer jacket thing is called a "kariginu". (My resource: here) Hope that's a little help.

If you can't get a pattern of that exact outfit, you might try browsing around the costume portion of McCall or Butterick's patterns for a man's tunic. You could alter it slightly and I think it'd probably work pretty well.

And yes, like Aka-chan said "We want pictures!!"
