Computer Problems

Ok, so I have a laptop with a card reader for SD cards installed, but when I stick and SD card in the reader and try to open it I get a message that says I need to format the inserted disk and when I click "OK" an error message comes up saying that the disk cannot be formatted. Any ideas?

Does the card have a "read only" toggle switch built into it?
