Hi everyone!!!! I'm Libby, an 18-year-old Episcopalian from West Virginia! Actually, I'm not officially an Episcopalian YET -- I'm getting baptized next week, though. YAY!

I love love love comics and manga. From Eroica with Love is my very favorite manga right now -- it is SO hilarious, and really old-school (from the seventies!) -- but I also love Hot Gimmick and Banana Fish. My favorite American comics are Street Angel (about a homeless skateboarder who kicks ninja butt!) and Teen Titans.

I'm really liberal, my whole family is. My dad's actually an ex-communist. Now he's a eensy bit less radical. For a long time he was atheist, but a few years ago he had some sort of religious epiphany and started going to church again, and now he's very devout. But still always grumbling about the environment and women's rights and evil corporations. ^_^ My mom was SO happy to see him going to church, she switched to the Episcopal church to go with him. My mom's very big on gay rights and is a total feminist. She's a doctor and raised me and my sisters while going to medical school. She's my no 1 role model. I love my parents. ^_^

But I get that I'm not supposed to talk about that kinda stuff here, so this is the last time I'll mention it, unless someone asks.

I also like doing service. I joined Campus Ministry at my college, and we do a lot of stuff like community clean ups and food drives and things like that. It's really fun! At home I work at a food pantry a few days a week.

I love drawing, too! I have a deviant art account here: lurkergrrl.deviantart.com.

I'm really happy to be here!!! It seems like a super nice board!

Libby,

Greetings and welcome. My mom's side of the family is from West Virginia too (except my grandparent's are the opposite of your folks. Uber-conservative ;) )

I've been interested in hot gimmick is about. Might you enlighten me?

Anyhow, welcome to the board, and welcome to the family of Christ. I'm excited to see how God uses you and how you grow in Him, and the same for your family!

God bless, and if you ever want to chat, just PM me. ;)

That's really cool!!!!

It's about a girl who is blackmailed by a boy in her apartment complex to be his "slave" -- she really hates him, but he could have her family thrown out into the street if he told his mom, thier landlady, that her sister had bought a pregnancy test. While this is all going on, a boy she liked as a kid returns to the area, and they begin to rekindle thier romance. But is he really all he seems?

It's a really great high-school soap opera kind of manga.

We'd prefer to keep this a politics-free zone: it's not our focus, and it just leads to protracted arguments. But we'd love to hear about your favourite series. :)

Ahh...ok. I think I understand now. I'll ask about it in the manga arena.

In the comic, it's a toss up between Robin and Kid Flash. Robin's a lot like the Robin in the cartoon -- he's super smart and serious. *sigh* And Kid Flash, he's only in the comic. He's this really impulsive, hyper, super adorable guy, whose superpower is his SPEED. He can vibrate through solid objects and read at superspeed, as well as just running really really fast. I <3 him!

Cartoon, it's Robin of course. But I also like Cyborg a lot. ^_^

Of course, I understand! I've gotten in political discussions online before, and it's never pretty. ^_^; It's nice to see a board that clearly labels them off-limits. I just mentioned it because it is a big part of who I am and where I'm coming from. I'd MUCH rather talk about anime. :D

Ooooo. Triple post by Osaka - that's -64 points.

Welcome aboard, uber liberal Libby. Glad to have you. I look forward to discussing the Titans with you. I collect the comics (and I go way back) and watch the show, too. There's a Teen Titans thread in In the Spotlight, perhaps worth a look. Anyway, welcome.
