Just saw it today at my local theater. Anyone else seen this yet? If so any thoughts/opinions? If not, any desire to?

I have nothing to say besides positivity towards this movie. My theater doesn't have 3D so unfortunately I can't say anything on that but the story, the way it played out, even the ending was VERY well done. I'm picking this up on DVD when it comes out.

I remember reading the book in middle school. I haven't seen the movie yet, but from what I have seen and heard it looks like it's really good.

I LOVED this movie...it was fantastic, very adorable and the characters are likable. Except for the dad... haha...

I didn't expect it to be so heartwarming, but I really think this movie will give Pixar a run for its money this year.

Those are the worst dragons I've ever seen.

This movie has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. It looks like pretty much EVERYONE thinks this movie is awesome. That being said, I'll definitely check it out if/when our theater gets it. Because seriously universal acclaim like that is pretty rare.

I want to see this because vikings + dragons = YESSSSS.

Plus the animation looks spiffy and the story looks fun.

I'm a pretty huge dragon fan/expert and even I can tell that they're dramatically stylized to fit with the light-hearted comedic style of the film. They at LEAST have dragonic features and look a lot better than what most people call "dragons" nowadays. Give it some slack.

Yeah, I was a little surprised that it got such high ratings cause people tend to be pretty harsh on these types of movies BUT I still think it deserves that rating.

Wonderful movie. Absolutely loved it.

Gosh, I'm a little surprised by the acclaim this movie is getting. XD I thought it looked cute, but I'm usually disappointed by Dreamworks' movies, so I wasn't sure what to think. After seeing all of your opinions, though, who I trust pretty well, I may try to see it soon! XD

From the first teaser trailer I saw for this (on the DVD for Monsters vs. Aliens, if I remember correctly), I've been hoping this will be a good movie. Because of my own dragon rider story, I've long had a special affinity for cute black dragons in particular, so I've been hoping it would be good. The comments in this thread have given me much hope for it, and I look forward to seeing it eventually.

I saw this yesterday (not in 3D, though) and was thoroughly impressed. The animation was gorgeous and the story was very heartwarming. I especially just enjoyed the setting and the clash between dragons and vikings. It added a nice element to drive the plot along. (I can't recall if dragons and vikings have been done before in a movie. I'm sure it has, but it probably hasn't looked this pretty).

And I agree with Crimmy that the ending was wonderfully done. But, I'm tempted to give away more. D:
Please go see this movie for yourself; it's definitely worth the watch. ^_^

Just saw it today and adored it!!! The height of entertainment, with fantastic characters, animation, character animation--everything!!! Usually I'm biased toward Pixar, but now, it's hard to say. Wall-E vs HTTYD...man! I don't think I've had to make a tougher call!

While I am still annoyed that Toothless ended up as a Night Fury, I have to admit this was a very good movie.

Just, be advised that the books have pretty much nothing to do with the movie beyond the title and character names.

Oh, and if there is a sequel, Alvin-the-poor-but-honest-farmer had better make an appearance.

Being the Viking fan I am, I must see this movie.

I was shocked at how good this was. Story was tight and well-told, and never really had a dull moment. It was filled with funny and sweet moments, and even had my heart racing at times. And the bit near the end! Woah. Very surprising for a kids' film, but for me that ups how good it was, actually. Even my brother, who normally doesn't like these sorts of movies, really enjoyed this film- enough to compete with his other favorite movies :shock:

I have been meaning to write this. I used to write movie reviews on the other forums that I have been a part of. I saw the movie yesterday and had to gather my thoughts together.
to be honest when I first hear of this movie I was extremely skeptical. I thought it was going to be horribly dumb and disappointing. give Dreamworks track record I had good reason. There movies as of late have been pretty bad. My brother really wanted to see it because he loves dragons (which kind of goes with the territory of being a Kaiju fan). So I since he was going to see it I figured that I would go along whenever he went. My opinion on the movie changed when I read abotu who the directors were. As it turned out it was Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, the same creators of Lilo and Stich. Which is a film that I really liked. So after I learned the information I was excited for the movie. Before I continue I must say that I saw the movie in 2D so I cannot comment on the 3D aspect of the film. Anyway, so as the movie began I knew within the first 5 minutes that it would be extremely cliché but I like the story archetype so I did not mind. As I watched the movie I began to enjoy it more and more. Even though I had seen the story a thousand times before it did not take away from the enjoyment of the film. The story and dialog was very well written and the comedy was very well done. I found this probably most surprising because generally the comedy of these recent animated movies has been terrible. The jokes were actually funny even from the secondary cast. The CGI was great and not the annoying and ugly CGI of something like "Monsters vs. Aliens". I think what I like most about this movie was that it brought back memories of when I was a kid and watched the animated movies of the 90's. The plot was fun and best of all family-friendly. It did have one part in it that I expected Hiccup and Astrid to start singing A Whole New World from Aladdin but that was my only complaint.
All in all "How To Train Your Dragon" was a fun, family-friendly, funny movie. The plot is horribly cliché but that does not take away from the entertainment of the film. There are very few things to complain about. I recommend this film to all and I think that kids, teens, and adults alike will enjoy the movie.

I saw this movie and loved it. Like RD said, Dreamworks movies aren't always what they're cracked up to be, but every once in a while they get their crap together and make a pretty awesome movie. How to Train Your Dragon is one such movie. That being said:

But you're right, it was heartwarming and really, really good. My whole family enjoyed this movie and we were dying with laughter in the theater. I highly recommend this movie to anyone.

Well I only said "THIS" year...considering we are getting a 3rd sequel to a older franchise... (which will probably be good, but I am not sure it will be better than HtTYD) Now if this were last year, and it was running against UP...that's a different story haha.

The one thing I noticed though just from looking at the trailers is cause of how similar their plots seems to be towards Avatar. O_O Not saying it in a bad way, I just find it funny. xDD I'd rather see this movie then Avatar again. *shrugs* I hope I can this weekend. ^^
