Peter Graves dead

Postby Nate » Mon Mar 15, 2010 1:17 pm

Peter Graves died of a heart attack on March 14, 2010, four days prior to his 84th birthday. The actor had just returned from brunch with his wife and children, collapsing before he could enter the house. Although one of his daughters administered CPR, she could not revive him.

For those who don't know, Peter Graves was the host of A&E's Biography series, as well as starring in a lot of cheesy B-movies like SST: Death Flight, It Conquered the World, Beginning of the End, Parts: The Clonus Horror, and Killers from Space.

Dude was a legend. So in tribute, I would like to post Crow T. Robot's wonderful and poignant screenplay, Just Plain Peter: The U of M Years, or, Peter Graves Goes To College at the University of Minnesota.

Mr. Graves, you will be missed.

I had no idea who this was until I looked up his IMDB profile and discovered that he was the Captain in Airplane!. Now I know him for his very short, yet funny role in that movie.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

So that's why everyone's been quoting Airplane today. RIP Mr. Graves.

Captain Oveur: Alright, give me a Hamm on 5, hold the Mayo.

Wasn't he also on the Mission Impossible TV series with Leonard Nimoy?

Yes, he played on Mission: Impossible. That show and the movie Airplane are the only ones that I remember him from.

Hmm... Celebrity death time, again?

Who are the next 2 gonna be, I wonder? Or was there another really recent one?

I'd hate to be the daughter... Feeling like his life was in my hands and having him die, but hopefully she understands that he's very old, so it's not her fault.

I have every single Mission: Impossible DVD from the original series, and about 2/3rds of the 1988-1990 series on VHS, and a whole bunch of collectables, and even an autographed picture (to me) of Graves from when he hosted A&E Biography.

Yes, I love Mission: Impossible (not those execrable movies) and I am bummed -- even more than when Greg Morris (Barney) died a few years back. Good luck, Mr Phelps.

Graves was also in "Stalag 17" and "Fury," btw, which were much better than the cheese output he also appeared in in his early career. And he was acting even recently -- he had a bit part in MIB II, as the host of the show-within-a-show.

I somewhat-more-than-vaguely recall that, now that you mention it.
