Well, every year the Superbowl becomes a magnet for advertisers. So what was the best one?
I say it's the one for Denny's with the screaming chickens.

The little boy instructing his mom's date, "Keep your hands off my mama, and keep your hands off my Doritos."

I didn't really see a whole lot of good ones this year. My favorite though, was the one with the beaver playing the fiddle. I don't remember what it was for.

Monster.com. The beaver was logging into the site at the beginning of the commercial (while fiddling, and while other beavers were working more standard beaver jobs.) The idea was, he was getting into a career that suited him better by using their service.

Hands down, that was the best one of the night. The Budweiser Clydesdales ad was cute as always. Also the Leno-Letterman-Oprah Super Bowl promo was one that I like.

Other then that, the rest were okay or just bad.

Daytona 500 have so much better ads then the ones for the Super Bowl now a days.

I would like to say "none of them" except that something has to be "best" in any group, no matter how poor overall. For that reason, I would say that the Denny's people deserve credit for what they were going for in the chicken commercials. The shot in space at least made me smile and I appreciated the idea of interrupting a slow motion shot with another chicken.

Having said that, I will not be watching the commercials next year.

That Leno/Oprah/Letterman ad confused and irritated me. Just what were they trying to say?

This, and Tim, the Dorito ninja. Doritos were on a roll this year. My dad went to go get drinks in the middle and I had him get Doritos. May be the first time I actuallt got somthing because of the commercials.

I also liked the Denny's Chickens.

They were really not trying to say anything other then the Letterman had made jokes about Leno and Conan deal. It was just a promo ad for the Letterman show. A few years ago, they did one with Letterman and Oprah. This time around, they ask if Leno would be in part of it.

I think to top this ad off, would have been Conan knocking on the door to deliver a pizza.

I wish Conan could've been in it but he isn't allowed on TV for another month...

My favorite commercial was:

The google ad.

This commercial is not only touching, but also has an extra layer of brilliance as an ad. There are a fantastic number of people who have spent a significant amount of their life using google, and this ad intelligently and subtly reminds us of that. The core message of the ad is simple, "Google has always been there, and always will be."

I liked the one with the VWs. I spent the whole time saying, "This is stupid; there's no way they could be leading up to anything..." Then Stevie Wonder announces "Red One" and I just lost it. XD The "How do you DO that?" line was effectively a throw away, but it gave me the split second retake of "they did NOT just put Stevie... Oh yes they did...!"

If it weren't for the Doritos ad, this one would have been my favorite. (and yes, it would have been better if they just left it at Stevie Wonder's line.)

By the way, my college-student son did a lot of film work during high school. I learned yesterday that one of his acquaintances met through that was part of the group that came up with another Doritos ad ('Miracle', the one with the guy who wanted to be buried in Doritos).

The Stevie Wonder one was good, but those screaming chickens are definitely my favorite.
