Has anyone here heard about the new Disney short found on their "Platinum" version of The Little Mermaid? It's called "The Little Match Girl" and, like the Little Mermaid, it's based on a Hans Christian Andersen story too. It happens to be one of my favorite fairy tales, and they do a fantastic job of retelling the story. They don't even use dialog!
You can view the video

I highly recommend you get a box of kleenex out. It's refreshing to know Disney still has the magic.

Oh, I have that one! Yes, it's such a sad story. I read it first, but I think the animate version does the written story credit. Love it!

A short about The Little Match Girl ?
I could watch that for Christmas...or I could just go watch Grave of the Fireflies.

Yeah, I saw this when we bought The Little Mermaid on DVD a while back. It's lovely, just beautiful, especially because there are no words (and none are necessary). My mom always cries when she reads or hears this story, and she cried when she saw the short as well. That, I would say, means it captured the essence of the story.
