There's hope for Christian Media yet...

Not to totally say that the thread about a lot Christian Media is kind of giving us a bad name is totally wrong or anything... (because there's some really silly stuff out there XD)

But I'm an optimist at heart and I think that there are SOME who are actually doing it RIGHT.

I'm going to share with you guys something I learned about over the summer...it looks like a really cool project going down and I am actually excited to see it! I'm not exactly sure if this is "new" news or old news for you guys... but I'm sharing it anyways!

I had originally posted this on a post from the aforementioned thread but I decided that there was too much information to just waste on a reply... (I felt like I was also changing the point of the thread a bit too so..)

It's a retelling of the old Jesus Film (you know that really well known one that has been translated worldwide? The one that looks like it's at least 20-30 years old? Yah, that one. XD

Well, in an effort to make it more modern a group of animators are wanting to completely animate it, and I'm not sure but I think they might keep the dialogue. (don't quote me on that though).

Basic website: http://www.visualtranslation.org/ (kinda bland XD but there's links to info there)

http://www.whoishe.org/animationproject/ These are STORYBOARD trailers in like 30 different languages... keep in mind these are ROUGH conceptual trailers man of the images are choppy and its' all greyscale...(which in my opinon are really well done, and if the conceptual images are THIS good, I can only imagine what the final project will be.)

Here's a behind the scenes clip that will show you guys how much they really want to do this film "right" http://www.whoishe.org/feedback/index.php?sec=video&links=homelinks You will see there are also some pretty well-known faces working on it too..

and just for a little FYI here are some conceptual images that tell you guys what kind of look they might be going for:
Image
(I'm biased but I like the look of #4 and #1 the best XD)

there is also a survey that we can take at

en2.whoishe.org

Soo yeah XD I think there's SOME hope for Christian media out there... and maybe people will see this film and be like "oohh so that's what quality is..."

I dunno I like how it's coming anyways.. >_>

Mods, sorry if this has already been posted somewhere, I did a quick search and Id idn't find anything ^^;

Awhile back one of the people working on this project posted a thread about it. It's been long enough that it warrants a new thread about it, though.

I'm glad to see that it's still going strong.

Found it! (Had to google search, "Jesus" is too common a search term for CAA's search engine...)
For anyone interested in the old thread.

I didn't even think to look in the general section XD I didn't figure that they would visit the site and post it there... O.o Sorry everyone for the old info! ^^;

Jesus' expression in #3 is utterly hilarious. Like he's telling a parable and forgot how it's supposed to end or suddenly remembered he left the oven on.

Regardless, I kinda like 4 and 5. Though I doubt I'll be keeping a close eye on this.

Jesus throws the man possessed by Legion with the Force.

It's pretty sweet.

Actually, I'd love to see something full-length done like this using art style #4 in particular. I'd support something like that, provided it was well-made.

Also, Jesus in #5 reminds me of Boromir holding up his hand in the first LOTR movie and going "It is a gift..."

The only style I really am not a fan of is number 2...I don't know what it is but I just don't like it.

#5, style wise, reminds me of either 300 or something ripped from the Manga Bible for some reason...

I like 1,2, and 4 the best. Glad to see some updates on this project.

What is this? Quality animation? In Christian media? When did THIS happen?

I'd like to see 5 with 4's color palette, myself. Does 5's shading remind anyone else of Viewtiful Joe?

Personally I think #5's shading is closer to the style of Viewtiful Joe...

Actually, it's not that surprising. I remember when I was a kid, there was a series of Bible story videos by a guy who had worked with Disney and the animation in those was not bad at all.

#5 is Punk Rock Jesus.

As for the rest.

#4 is probably the best of the lot. I'd watch that.

I think I like number four so much because it reminds me of the quality that production IG usually does XD I mean they keep talking about how this would be an "anime" style well I like that look the best it's more realistic.

I think I know what is ailing number 2...the color pallet is too colorful and whimsical for my tastes... ^^; and that's coming from ME! someone who loves to use colorful and whimsical colors XD

#2 looks like a photoshop done by a twelve year old.

I prefer #4 myself.

Since he said they are trying to appeal to the "technology loving anime watching crowd", 5 would work the best in my opinion (and I personally like that style too). I don't think there's been a Christian / Jesus cartoon with a cool style like that before, so it would be interesting.

hmm I've heard about this on the project (hosts online Christian manga) but never actually checked it out... ^^ I like number 4..
hah

Tarnish FTW! XDD
I think numbers 1 and 2 are too yellow or something... but I'm not one for super bright colors... XD and

number 5 = Jesus as the mafia.. Jesus: "Come here I have something to tell you.. REPENT!" *whacks with scroll* The Day of Lord is coming!
XD
Awesome all the pictures tho XD

am i the only one here who doesn't like any of the styles?

1. is too bland.
2. looks like they are made out of cheese and clay.
3. is a little better but doesn't impress me that much.
4. doesn't impress me that much either. its like... bleh anime kinda.
5. wtf it looks like they had way too much fun with intense colors.

although i am impressed with their storyboard art. it looks much better.

Hmmmm.......

I think I'll go with number 1.

5 looks like it was inspired by Gurren-Lagann.
