T4's Bale Signs For Three

Christian Bale is to play rebel leader John Connor in three sequels to the Terminator franchise, BBC News reported.

The Welsh-born star, who is soon to be seen in the Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight, has already started shooting the first of those films, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the news service reported.

"He read the script, and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three," Derek Anderson, business partner of Halcyon films' Victor Kubicek, told the BBC.

McG (Charlie's Angels) is directing the first prequel film, which is slated for release on May 22, 2009.

They should have stopped making the films after 2. They made 3, it sucked. However, Bale is the man. So I trust these new ones won't suck.

I'm with El Steve on this one. Christian Bale is a fantastic actor so I'm going to try and trust that these won't be terrible but then, I have to side with Grubb.

THREE?

I mean...

...REALLY?

Christian Bale did a splendid job as the revamped Batman, so maybe he can save these movies. For the record, are these going to be set basically sometime after the 3rd movie?

New update about the movie.

T4 details revealed

Sci Fi Channel wrote:T4 Details Revealed

Warner Brothers announced that Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the fourth installment in the SF franchise, began production on May 5 in Albuquerque, N.M., and offered new details about the movie's storyline and cast.

McG is directing the movie, which stars Sam Worthington and Christian Bale as an adult John Connor, based on a script by Michael Ferris and John Brancato (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines).

Warner also offered new details about the film, which is set in post-apocalyptic 2018. Bale's Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators.

But the future that Connor was raised to believe is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes and Jadagrace as Star.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is envisioned as the first film in a new Terminator trilogy and is slated for release on May 22, 2009.

PG-13? Blah. I'm sorry, but I hate it when they take an R franchise and tone it down for a bigger viewing base. They pulled that same crap with Alien vs Predator and that turned out awesome. >.<

Terminator 1 and 2 were good (more 2 than 1). The 3rd movie sucked badly. Christian Bale is all kinds of awesome but I don't think there need to be any more movies.

Update:

Bale balked at Terminator

Sci Fi Channel wrote:Christian Bale, who plays a grown-up John Connor in the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, told reporters that he hesitated to take a pivotal role in another major SF franchise after playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Begins and the upcoming sequel, The Dark Knight.

"My feeling is that, you know, we have an opportunity and a responsibility" to such franchises, Bale said in a group interview in Beverly Hills, Calif., on June 29 to promote Dark Knight.

Bale added: "There's no point in making it if we don't achieve this: ... Reinventing that mythology, and there's a great deal of potential for that, and that is what I'm attempting to do. Anything less than that would be us failing."

Bale plays the iconic hero of the human revolution in Terminator Salvation, which attempts to reboot the franchise in the first of three films set after the nuclear holocaust of Judgment Day.

Well, I liked the first two Terminator movies. Cameron's films are not just action but good story telling.

The third one with a different director was a letdown. I mean it was an average popcorn action type movie. But, since it was Terminator 3; it was disappointing. So, while I'm interested in T4. I'm not overly excited.

As, ShatterheartArk mentioned about AvP. I thought that was a lousy film. I didn't even bother to see the next AvP.

Well, imo Alien and Aliens are great. The others aren't quite as good. And, when it comes to Predator only the original is good. The sequel is bad. At least for me it was.

But, I think it is easy to see why a lot of action films today are PG-13. Because, they want teenagers to see the movie. Since, that demographic is perhaps the largest draw to the theaters.

I do agree with ShatterheartArk that I don't always like that studios do that. All they seem to care about is more box office money. Plus, it does often water down a film and make them feel more like "dumb fun" movie instead of a more serious movie. Although, there have been some rather violent PG-13 movies as well. And, there's been some truly eerie PG-13 ghost movies as well. So, sometimes it can be a little controversial as to what the film's rating should have been. At least people sometimes debate that.

Comic Con Update:

I saw the trailer and saw the panel for this at Comic Con. All that I will say is that the shown footage is very encouraging.

Actors don't make movies... Or, at least, I think director's make a movie a lot more than actors... If you don't believe me, I have two words for you on good actors and a bad director:

I'm sorry to do this, this pains me, I shouldn't utter such vile words in CAA, but:

No, really, I shouldn't... But:

Uwe Boll...

I'll take my temp ban, now. I apologize profusely...

I'm incredibly skeptical of this. Good actors don't make a good film. Just look at the new Star Wars trilogy. >_> And since it looks like one of the guys involved with T3 is involved in this, I wouldn't get your hopes up just because it has Christian Bale in it.

I saw the preview but I couldn't tell much from it, honestly.
